Panel Room / Generator Operators at Matrix Energy Group

The Panel Room Operator is responsible for monitoring and controlling the panel room operations to ensure the effective performance of electrical and mechanical systems across the tank farm. The role involves taking generator and power consumption readings at specified intervals, coordinating maintenance calls from various units, and promptly escalating technical issues to the appropriate personnel for timely resolution.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Monitor panel operations and ensure all control systems are functioning efficiently.
• Record generator hourly readings and performance data at scheduled intervals.
• Maintain accurate records of hourly BEDC (Benin Electricity Distribution Company) power consumption daily.
• Receive and log maintenance-related calls from other departments through intercom and communicate issues to the appropriate technical personnel for action.
• Escalate major or urgent maintenance issues to the Maintenance Supervisor immediately.
• Monitor AGO (Automotive Gas Oil) supply levels to service tanks and track daily generator consumption.
• Raise requisitions for AGO replenishment through the Line Manager when tank dips reach 1,500 liters.
• Operate and switch on all required pumps and panels to support daily loading operations.
• Switch on perimeter lights in the evening and shut them down in the morning according to the agreed time.
• Report any faults or irregularities related to the panel or electrical systems to the Line Manager for prompt attention.
• Ensure proper documentation and timely submission of all operational readings and reports.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

• OND or equivalent qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in panel room operations, generator monitoring, or similar roles within an industrial, depot, or tank farm environment.
• Technical Skills:
• Sound understanding of electrical and mechanical system operations.
• Ability to read and interpret control panel data and generator gauges.
• Basic troubleshooting skills for minor faults in power generators and motor control panels.

• Good communication and reporting abilities.
• Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
• Strong sense of responsibility and alertness.
• Ability to work in a shift-based environment.
