    Mini-Grid Operator

    Description

    Job Summary

    • The Mini Grid Operator is responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning and optimal performance of our mini grid.
    • The Operator will be responsible for coordinating and supervising the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities of the mini grid.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee the overall operations of the mini grid system, including generation, distribution, and customer connections.
    • Coordinate and schedule regular maintenance activities, including inspection and cleaning of the mini grid assets (solar panels, inverters and batteries).
    • Collaborate with the Operations Manager and technical team to promptly address any equipment failures or malfunctions.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance activities, including repairs, replacements, and the equipment performance.
    • Regularly move around the community to detect and report any instances of electricity theft or unauthorized usage.
    • Collaborate with the Operations Manager and relevant authorities to address cases of electricity theft effectively.
    • Proactively identify faults or malfunctions within the mini grid system.
    • Conduct regular inspections and troubleshooting to detect and diagnose system issues.
    • Take appropriate measures to rectify faults promptly, coordinating with the Operations Manager and technical team when necessary.
    • Continuously monitor the output of the mini grid system to ensure reliable electricity supply.
    • Use monitoring equipment, where applicable, to track system performance and identify any deviations or abnormalities.
    • Report any significant changes or issues affecting the system’s output promptly.
    • Interact with customers, addressing inquiries, and resolving complaints related to electricity supply.
    • Manage the billing process, ensuring accurate metering, invoicing, and collection of payments.
    • Calculate, document, and remit the revenue generated by the mini grid to the Operations Manager on a weekly basis.
    • Monitor the performance of the inverter and take hourly readings of relevant parameters such as voltage, current, and power output.
    • Maintain a logbook of the readings, noting any notable variations or anomalies.
    • Prepare comprehensive weekly reports summarizing all activities related to the mini grid operations, and submit to the Operations Manager within the designated timeframe.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of OND (Ordinary National Diploma) in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field.
    • Proven knowledge and understanding of mini grid systems and their components.
    • Knowledge of electrical systems, including power distribution, electrical wiring, and basic troubleshooting.
    • Ability to detect and report instances of electricity theft or unauthorized usage effectively.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
    • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is an added advantage.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Time management and organizational skills.
