Ensure materials are suitable, meet specifications, and offer guidance on the best materials to use for a project, based on their individual properties.
Work with a wide variety of materials, including metals, ceramics, plastics, semiconductors, and composites, and create new materials.
Develop a database/catalog for materials specifications.
Use advanced processes to replicate the characteristics of materials.
Design and direct the testing and/or control of processing procedures.
Investigate incidents of material failure, proffer solutions and, select the best materials for specific purposes.
Explore the environmental impact of different materials and their manufacture and use.
Track material performance and advise on best strategies.
Provide technical advice about the suitability of materials for different products and problems
Evaluate cost-effectiveness of materials.
Measure the performance of various materials in accordance with specifications.
Collaborates with procurement in procuring the right quality of materials.
Inspect and approve all procured items delivered to the company warehouse.
Qualifications
First degree in Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or Earth Sciences
Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Material Science Engineer in a built environment
Experience in materials engineering or related field
Metallurgy experience is required
Excellent communication skills expressed both in written and oral
Demonstrate strong technical and service attributes
Read and understand design specifications and technical testing procedures.
Analytical problem-solving skills
