    Location:  Residential (Ibadan), Nigeria

    About the Role:

    Our client is seeking a compassionate and proactive Live-In Therapy Assistant to join their home and provide dedicated support for a high-functioning young child on the autism spectrum. The successful candidate will be a key member of the child’s developmental support team, working closely with visiting therapists to reinforce therapeutic techniques in daily activities. This role is essential in supporting the child’s growth across social, behavioural, communication, and motor skills, creating a structured and nurturing environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Collaborate with Therapy Team: Partner with speech, behavioural, social skills, motor, and sensory therapists to implement individualized strategies tailored to the child’s needs.
    • Daily Practice and Reinforcement: Integrate therapeutic techniques into routine activities to ensure consistency and strengthen skill development in a natural setting.
    • Assist with Routines: Support the child’s morning and evening routines, helping to build self-care skills and emotional regulation.
    • Monitor and Document Progress: Maintain detailed logs of daily behaviours, improvements, challenges, and responses to therapy activities, providing updates to the therapy team.
    • Encourage Social and Behavioural Development: Promote positive social interactions, engagement, and effective communication by actively practicing and  reinforcing skills learned in sessions.
    • Support Motor Skill Development: Facilitate motor skill exercises, including physical activities and sports, to help improve coordination and agility.
    • Foster a Safe Environment: Maintain a nurturing, calm atmosphere and address  behaviours like self-talk, echolalia, and sensory sensitivities.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Educational Background: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, or  a related field.
    • Relevant Experience: Prior experience with autism or developmental conditions, preferably in roles such as in-home support, special education, or therapy assistance.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Patient, empathetic, and sensitive to the unique needs of a child with developmental challenges.
    • Effective Communication: Ability to communicate clearly with family members, therapists, and the child, reinforcing therapeutic strategies.
    • Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust routines and strategies based on the child’s progress and evolving needs.
    • Organizational Abilities: Capable of keeping accurate records and following a structured approach to daily routines and activities.
    • Physical Fitness: Comfortable engaging in physical activities (e.g., running drills, play therapy) to support motor skills development.
