We are hiring a highly organized and professional Legal Secretary to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will provide essential administrative support to our legal department, ensuring the smooth running of daily operations. As a Legal Secretary, you will assist our lawyers and legal staff by performing a variety of tasks that contribute to the effective management of cases and legal documents. Your role will include maintaining legal files, preparing correspondence, scheduling meetings, and interacting with clients.
Requirements
NCE / OND / HND/ BSC/ Master's in Business Administration, Accounting or related field or (Associate's degree or certification in Legal Studies preferred).
Proven experience of 3 to 5 years as a Legal Secretary or similar administrative role in a law firm or legal department.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Familiarity with legal terminology, procedures, and court systems.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion.
Experience with legal software and case management systems is an added advantage.
Strong multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Draft, review, and proofread legal documents including contracts, briefs, and court filings.
Manage and organize legal files and maintain case documentation in an accurate and up-to-date manner.
Schedule court hearings, client meetings, and legal appointments.
Coordinate with courts, clients, and other legal professionals to manage case schedules and deadlines.
Handle telephone calls and correspondence (emails, letters, etc.).
Maintain an effective filing system and retrieve legal records when necessary.
Perform legal research under the supervision of attorneys.
Transcribe dictations and prepare legal documents from written drafts.
Assist with billing and tracking expenses related to cases.
Ensure timely submission of court documents and meet all required deadlines.
