Legal Officer at GIG Logistics

Job Summary 

• We are seeking a Legal Officer to work with the legal team and oversee the legal affairs of our logistics company. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, draft and review contracts, handle dispute resolution, and provide legal advice to the management and staff on office-related, legal, corporate, and operational matters. 

Key Responsibilities:

Legal Advisory & Compliance 

• Ensure the company’s compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. 
• Provide legal advice on business operations, contracts, and risk management. 
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the logistics industry and advise management accordingly. 

Contract Drafting & Review 

• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including service agreements, vendor contracts, lease agreements, employment contracts, tenancy agreements, and/or any other agreement as requested by the business. 
• Ensure all contracts protect the company’s interests and mitigate potential legal risks. 

Dispute Resolution & Litigation 

• Manage legal disputes, including customer claims, vendor disputes, and employee-related issues. 
• Represent the company in legal proceedings and liaise with external legal counsel when necessary. 
• Ensure effective resolution of claims, litigation, and regulatory matters. 

Corporate Governance & Documentation 

• Maintain and update the company’s legal records, licenses, permits, and corporate governance documents. 
• Assist in preparing board resolutions, shareholder agreements, and compliance reports. 

Regulatory & Government Relations 

• Engage with government agencies and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with laws governing logistics, transport, and customs. 
• Handle legal issues related to import/export, freight forwarding, and warehousing. 

Key Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) and Call to the Bar (BL) in Nigeria. 
• Minimum of 3 years post-bar legal experience, preferably in logistics, supply chain, or a related industry. 
• Strong knowledge of contract law, corporate law, and regulatory compliance in the logistics sector. 
• Experience handling disputes, litigation, and regulatory matters. 
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills. 
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple legal tasks efficiently. 
• Ability to properly interact with law enforcement agencies. 
• Liaise with relevant law enforcement agencies to facilitate legal processes, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
