    Legal Officer

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Serve as the primary legal advisor to the organization, providing sound and timely counsel on a broad range of legal issues
    • Proactively identify, assess, and manage legal risks facing the organization, and develop strategies to mitigate and resolve such risks
    • Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
    • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts and other legal documents, ensuring that the organization’s interests are protected
    • Manage litigation and other disputes involving the organization, including coordinating with outside counsel as necessary
    • Advise on employment law matters, including hiring, firing, discipline, leaves, and grievance procedures
    • Conduct research on legal issues to support litigation efforts
    • Interprete laws, regulations, and policies to advise the organization on implementation for relevance situations
    • Review and analyze laws, regulations, and cases related to specific industries such as insurance, banking, or taxation to advise organization on compliance with legal requirements
    • Keep abreast of developments in relevant areas of law and share relevant information with members and departments of the organization
    • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, regulators, and industry associations
    • Represent the organization at meetings, conferences, seminars, and other related events
    • Perform research on legal issues as needed
    • Represent the organization, in concert with external counsels in court proceedings, negotiating with opposing counsel, and work with external counsels to develop legal arguments
    • Provide training to employees on legal topics relevant to their roles within the organization
    • Supervise and mentor junior legal staff where applicable

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • LLB from an accredited University
    • BL from Nigerian Law School
    • Admission to the Nigerian Bar
    • 5 years of experience as a counsel in good standing with no record of ethical violations
    • Be a self starter
    • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
    • Excellent oral advocacy and communication skills
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    Preferred Skills and Qualifications

    • LLM Masters in a relevant field
    • Experience in the area of corporate/commercial law
    • Experience with Ecommerce company is desirable
    • Membership of other professional association is an added advantage
    • Ethics and compliance management
    • Organizational skills
    • Leadership skill
