    Lead Mechanic

    Job Description

    • The Lead Mechanic is responsible for overseeing the service technicians to carry out maintenance inspections, monitor spare usage, assemble mechanical components, and perform repairs on all Biswal truck fleet in accordance with the workshop Standard operating procedures.
    • Monitor and direct work of mechanics, Auto Electricians, Tyre Fitters and other workshop personnel
    • Coach mechanics and other workshop personnel on best workshop practices and Ensure housekeeping activities is properly done daily
    • Ensure administration of the JOB card on every workshop task.
    • Evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles using diagnostic equipment. 
    • Assist mechanics evaluate major mechanical problems, and inspect repairs when completed.
    • Rebuild, replace, or repair major vehicle components, assemblies, and systems including engines, transmissions, suspensions, etc.
    • Check and repair electrical and cooling systems, and install heaters and similar accessories
    • Estimate time and materials required to perform repairs
    • Maintain accurate, updated preventive maintenance records
    • Report any known driver tampering with equipment or theft.
    • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties
    • Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by the Workshop Supervisor

    Job Requirements

    • Minimum of National Diploma in Mechanical, Automobile Engineering or a related discipline
    • Relevant professional qualifications would be added advantage.
    • Must possess a minimum of Five years’ experience as a light/heavy duty truck mechanic.
    • Sound knowledge of light/heavy duty trucks and equipment, maintenance, repair activities
    • Advanced knowledge of diesel and fuel engine maintenance and repair 
    • Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs independently 
    • Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair
    • Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts 
    • Ability to drive trucks with physical Acceptable driving record
    • People management
    • Relationship management
