    Junior Cargo Operator

    Job Summary:

    • The JCOP demonstrates a high standard of safety behavior and ensures that all cargo and cargo utility operations and maintenance are conducted safely and efficiently. The JCOP is authorized to perform cargo loading, offloading, and maintenance of cargo systems and utilities, and may act as an HLO (Helmsman Line Handler) Assistant when required.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Prepare for, Monitor, and Shutdown Cargo Operations

    • Familiarize with all relevant rules, regulations, and work procedures applicable to cargo operations. 
    • Monitor, control, and log imported and produced oil loading and distribution as instructed by the Cargo Supervisor or OIM. 
    • Prepare for start-up of Marine, Cargo, Ballast, and Fiscal Metering Operations. 
    • Execute start-up procedures for Marine, Cargo, Ballast, and Fiscal Metering Operations. 
    • Monitor and maintain ongoing Marine, Cargo, Ballast, and Fiscal Metering Operations. 
    • Prepare for shutdown of Marine, Cargo, Ballast, and Fiscal Metering Operations. 
    • Be familiar with the Permit to Work (PTW) system and operate in compliance. 
    • Act as GMDSS Operator, monitoring safety equipment alarms in the CCR. 
    • Maintain CCR logbook, storage tank status records, and control ship trim, draft, and hull stresses. 
    • Control and coordinate personnel movement, including disembarking and arriving crew via surfer boats. 
    • Maintain effective radio communication with the Process Deck, Export Tanker, Helicopter, supply boats, and surf boats as applicable.

    Isolate, Maintain, and Reinstate Pumproom and Cargo Systems

    • Operate under PTW and Isolation Certificates, conducting toolbox talks. 
    • Support tank entry, inspection, and maintenance activities following company procedures. 
    • Test isolation integrity and confirm safe working conditions. 
    • Depressurize, drain, vent, degas, and de-gas systems as required, ensuring safety standards. 
    • Confirm work areas are hazard-free, performing tests such as gas/H2S detection. 
    • Communicate effectively with the team and CCR personnel. 
    • Perform maintenance within scope of responsibility and training. 
    • Carry out de-isolation, testing, and reinstatement of systems according to procedures.

    Monitor and Maintain Pollution Control Measures

    • Ensure discharges from the area are within prescribed environmental limits. 
    • Identify, halt (if safe), and report unplanned discharges according to policies and regulations. 
    • Manage waste and materials disposal following proper procedures.

    Perform Emergency Response Role

    • Support emergency response activities and demonstrate competence during drills and exercises.

    Qualifications And Experience

    • Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch certificate (STCW95 Reg. III/1) and flag state endorsement. 
    • Minimum of 3 years' experience on oil tankers (VLCC experience preferred). 
    • Knowledge of Permit to Work systems, Mechanical Isolation Standards, and Risk Assessments.

    • Assertive and positive communicator with excellent teamwork skills. 
    • Proficient in written and spoken English. 
    • Demonstrates technical, legal, and professional competencies relevant to the role. 
    • Familiar with standard office software, internet, and email systems.
