Head, Quality Assurance (Solid Minerals) at Sabi

Job Summary

We are seeking a Head, Quality Assurance to implement, lead and manage all quality assurance processes within our mining and processing operations. As the Head, Quality Assurance, you will ensure all mining and processing operations comply with product quality, regulatory, safety, environmental and company standards, while driving efficiency and a strong culture of compliance, accountability, and excellence. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the unique properties and mining and processing techniques of various minerals, sampling methodologies and hands-on experience in laboratory analysis, audits, risk assessments and quality testing. 

What you will be doing

• Develop and implement quality assurance policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring full compliance with product quality requirements, industry regulations and company expectations. 
• Oversee the entire quality-check process, from raw materials to extraction, processing, and final products, ensuring consistency and adherence to set standards. 
• Supervise laboratory testing, making sure that all quality assessments are accurate and reliable. 
• Implement efficient sampling techniques and ensure they are correctly applied in quality assessments. 
• Monitor lab testing schedules and ensure quality assessments are completed on time to avoid any delay in operations. 
• Utilize various tools and equipment to test and verify the quality of different minerals. 
• Conduct weekly internal audits to verify that SOPs and SLAs are being adhered to. 
• Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and key stakeholders to ensure all quality expectations are met. 
• Analyze and compile detailed quality reports for both internal teams and external partners, providing clear insights and recommendations. 
• Drive ongoing improvements by identifying opportunities to enhance quality standards and streamline processes, ensuring we stay ahead of industry best practices. 
• Identify quality related training and development gaps, and guide the quality assurance team on best practices, providing hands-on training and mentorship to promote a strong culture of compliance, accountability, and excellence. 
• Inspect final output and compare properties to requirements. 

Special Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Geology, Metallurgy, Geology, Engineering or a related field. 
• 10 years’ experience in QA within the mining industry. 
• Solid understanding of various minerals and their unique properties. 
• Hands-on experience in laboratory analysis, audits, risk assessments and quality testing.  
• Strong knowledge of various sampling techniques. 
• Familiarity with different tools and equipment for quality testing across various minerals. 
• Experience with quality management standards like ISO 9001 
• Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools. 
• Strong understanding of industry standards, regulations and compliance requirements. 
• Strong relationship management and collaboration skills.  
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
