    Head, Procurement (Direct Materials & Import)

    THE ROLE

    The Head, Procurement (Direct Materials & Import) is responsible for leading the end-to-end sourcing, importation, and supply of direct raw materials (e.g., commodities, packaging materials, additives) critical to production. This role ensures cost-effective, timely, and compliant procurement of imported raw materials, manages supplier relationships globally. and works closely with finance, logistics, and regulatory teams to optimize the import supply chain while managing FX exposure and customs compliance.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Develop and execute procurement strategies for direct/raw materials to ensure uninterrupted supply to production.
    • Identify, evaluate, and onboard reliable international suppliers. Negotiate pricing, contracts, and long-term supply agreements. Oversee the end-to-end import process from PO issuance to delivery, including customs clearance.
    • Ensure compliance with NAFDAC, SON, Customs (NCS) and other regulatory requirements.
    • Collaborate with Finance/Treasury on FX planning and landed cost optimization.
    • Build strong supplier relationships and manage performance through audits and reviews.
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing procurement team.
    • Drive process improvement and digitization of procurement workflows.

    QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Economics or a related field.
    • A Master's degree is an advantage.
    • Professional certification such as CIPS, APICS/ASCM (CPIM or CSCP), ISM, or equivalent is highly desirable.
    • 7-10 years of progressive procurement/supply chain experience with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role in FMCG or food manufacturing.
    • Proven experience in international procurement, import operations, customs and FX exposure management in Nigeria. Strong knowledge of commodity markets relevant to food manufacturing.

    • Cost savings/avoidance on direct material procurement
    • On-time delivery rate of imported raw materials
    • Inventory stock-out incidents due to import delays
    • Landed cost optimization versus budget
    • Supplier performance and compliance scores
    • FX exposure management effectiveness
