    Head of Production

    GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION    

    The Head of Production is responsible for planning and organizing production schedules, overseeing production processes and determining quality control standards. The Production Manager is also responsible for maintaining quality standards by approving incoming materials, in-process production, finished products, and recording the results.    

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES    

    • Ability to develop a detailed furniture and fittings production plan, coordinate production process, supervise available resources and be able to deliver on pre-agreed terms, delivery timeframes, budget, quality, and scope of work.
    • Manage our production process. Ensure production process runs smoothly, safely, clearly and meets production budget and goals.
    • Responsible for managing our furniture production efficiently, ensuring that all orders are executed to Clients’ requirement.
    • Prepare breakdown for costing, material plan, job sketches and cutting list for projects.
    • Ensure that right materials are supplied for projects.
    • Manages materials inventory- reviews production schedules to determine all materials needed for timely production.
    • Quality Control supervision and implementation of processes.
    • Oversee the production process that includes cutting to measurements, edge taping, plaining of boards, designing a finishing, drawing up production schedule and setting targets for carpenters, floor hands, machinists, and quality assistants.
    • Ensure that production is cost effective.
    • Monitor our products standards and implement quality control programmes.
    • Work with management to implement the company’s policies and goals.
    • Ability to manage production team for efficient and effective performance.
    • You are responsible for inventory, plan and organise maintenance of all the company’s machinery and tools.
    • Responsible for the coordination of all raw materials (Panels, Screws, etc).
    • Ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed.
    • Ensure that production schedules are executed within the agreed time.
    • Organise production meetings to communicate daily and weekly objectives, goals and requirements to each of the production team.
    • Ensure production problems are investigated and resolved in record time.
    • Ensure that faulty equipment is repaired quickly and efficiently.
    • Organise machine start-up and shut-down schedules to ensure minimum loss of production time and profits.
    • Plan & monitor our furniture that includes sub frames, frames, doors, kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, wall panels and other furniture production at every stage of manufacturing process.
    • Ensure that all furniture produced meet the company’s quality standards.
    • Continuous process improvement, internal and external.
    • Troubleshoot design and/or manufacturing problems as they arise.
    • Accountable for optimizing the production process, developing and following-through manufacturing and productivity improvement plans.
    • Accountable for optimizing the company’s logistics process.
    • Build a motivated, competent and results focused carpenters/installers, machinists, sprayers. Quality control/design hands.
    • Mentor / supervise team members and conduct performance reviews.
    • Identifying and organising relevant training sessions.
    • Send detailed monthly report to management.

    EDUCATION & TRAINING    

    • HND/BSc degree in Architecture, manufacturing engineering or related field

    KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE    

    • Minimum of 15-20 years’ relevant work experience in a furniture production factory/company.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Production Manager/Supervisor.

    SKILLS & ABILITIES

    • Understanding of manufacturing methods and procedures.
    • Technical know-how to maintain manufacturing machines and tools to maximum functionality.
    • Sound knowledge of furniture/Joinery production processes.
    • Sound knowledge of furniture factory equipment.
    • An awareness of Health, Safety and Environment issues.
    • Proficiency in the use of Mascot, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Excel and word.
    • Ability to work in a logical systemic manner.
    • Certification in Production and Inventory Management as well as Quality Control is an added advantage.
    • Professionalism and strong work ethics.
    • Excellent leadership and delegation skills are a must, as well as a keen attention to detail.
    • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain and teach methodologies.
    • Excellent Management, planning and organizational skills.
