Head Gardener at Atlantic Hall Schools

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•  Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, bed preparation, and planting
•  Lawn maintenance and cultivation
• Pruning of trees and flowers
•  Use and maintenance of hand tools and basic light machinery
• Use of the cylinder and rotary mowers to cut grass
•  Ensure all equipment and machinery are properly stowed and secure
• Clear rubbish and litter away from the garden and grounds
• Irrigate, mow, rake, and trim lawns and/or athletic fields.
• Implements detailed landscape plans.
• Maintains flowers, bushes, trees, and shrubs.
• Plants, transplants, fertilizes, applies chemicals, waters, prunes, and weeds flower beds and plant areas
• To keep the thoroughfares and footpaths clear and free from litter at all times
• To ensure that all chemical application is carried out in a safe and accurate manner

REQUIREMENT:

• Secondary School Certificate (SSCE)
• Some formal training in gardening or groundwork
• Gardening experience

Competencies and Skills

•  Knowledge of horticulture methods and materials, landscaping and cultivation of trees and woody plants.
• Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the job.
• Ability to perform grounds maintenance tasks.
• Skill in interpreting and completing landscape plans.
