Guidance Counselor at St. Francis Catholic Secondary School

Job Purpose

• To provide holistic support to secondary school students by addressing behavioral and academic challenges, offering psychological accompaniment, and guiding students on higher education opportunities, including scholarships and admissions abroad.

Key Responsibilities
Behavioural Mentorship & Student Discipline:

• Identify students with recurrent behavioural issues and develop individual mentorship plans.
• Conduct regular one-on-one or small group mentoring sessions to build trust and improve behaviour.
• Collaborate with teachers and parents to create supportive intervention strategies.

Academic Support and InterventionL:

• Work with teachers to identify students with learning difficulties or academic underperformance.
• Design and implement strategies for academic improvement, such as study groups, tutoring referrals, or special accommodations.
• Track and evaluate academic progress over time.

Psychological & Emotional Accompaniment:

• Provide a safe, confidential space for students to discuss emotional or psychological concerns.
• Offer basic counselling support and refer serious cases to qualified mental health professionals.
• Promote mental well-being through workshops, awareness campaigns, and peer support groups.

Higher Education & Scholarship Guidance:

• Assist students in exploring tertiary education options locally and internationally.
• Provide up-to-date information on university admissions, scholarship opportunities, application timelines, and requirements.
• Guide students through writing personal statements, CVs, and preparing for interviews or standardized tests (SAT, TOEFL, IELTS).

Requirements

• B.Ed / M.Ed in Guidance and Counselling
• B.Sc / M.Sc in Psychology or Educational Psychology
• Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience
• Professionally certified as a counsellor or life coach will be an added advantage.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and verbal communication skills.
