    Growth & Product Researcher

    About the Role

    • Before we build anything at Wazobia, it needs to be validated. Before we enter a market, it needs to be understood. Before we invest engineering time, someone needs to have done the work to prove it is worth it. That someone is you.
    • As our Growth & Product Researcher, your sole focus is research. You will dig deep into users, markets, competitors, and gaps and surface findings that are so clear and well-evidenced that they speak for themselves. You do not decide what gets built. You do not run sprints. You do not write product specs. You research, you document, and you deliver findings that change how we think.
    • If you are energised by uncovering insights others miss, obsessed with getting to the truth, and capable of working independently without being managed read on.

    What You Will Do

    Product Validation Research

    • Research whether a proposed product idea or feature solves a real, proven problem before any build begins
    • Conduct structured interviews and surveys with target users to validate or invalidate assumptions
    • Identify red flags, blind spots, and risks in proposed concepts — your job is to find the holes, not sell the idea
    • Document findings in clear, structured reports that the PM and leadership can act on directly
    • You do not decide what gets built — you provide the evidence that informs that decision

    User Research & Interviews

    • Design and run user interviews, surveys, and usability tests
    • Recruit and screen appropriate research participants
    • Synthesise raw findings into clear patterns, insights, and documented user needs
    • Maintain a growing library of user research that the team can reference over time
    • You do not create wireframes, designs, or prototypes — that is not this role

    Competitor & Market Analysis

    • Continuously monitor direct and indirect competitors across all Wazobia product areas
    • Analyse competitor strengths, weaknesses, positioning, pricing, and feature sets
    • Track market trends and flag emerging opportunities or threats before they become obvious
    • Deliver structured competitive intelligence reports on a regular cadence
    • You do not set strategy — you provide the intelligence that informs it

    Gap Analysis & Growth Research

    • Identify what is missing across our current product portfolio compared to what users need and what the market demands
    • Research growth opportunities — untapped audiences, underserved needs, new markets
    • Investigate compliance, regulatory, and operational factors relevant to product expansion
    • Quantify gaps where possible — not just "there is a gap" but "here is how big it is and here is the evidence"
    • You do not prioritise the roadmap — you surface the gaps and the PM makes the call

    What We Are Looking For

    Must-Haves

    • Proven hands-on experience in product research, market research, or growth research
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and conduct user interviews and extract meaningful, non-obvious insights
    • Strong experience in competitor analysis — you know how to find what others miss
    • Excellent written communication — your research reports are clear, structured, and require no interpretation
    • Completely self-directed — you do not need to be chased, reminded, or managed to produce output
    • Every recommendation you make is backed by data and evidence, never by opinion or assumption
    • Comfortable working fully remotely and independently across time zones

    Strong Advantages

    • Experience researching digital media, publishing, or content platform products
    • Familiarity with SEO and how search behaviour informs product decisions
    • Experience working in a sprint-based environment alongside PMs and engineers
    • Exposure to AI or SaaS product research
    • Knowledge of GDPR, data privacy, and digital compliance considerations

This Role Is Explicitly NOT For

    • Product Managers — you will not own decisions or roadmaps here
    • UX Designers — you will not produce wireframes, prototypes, or design outputs
    • UX Researchers whose primary skill is usability testing over market and growth research
    • Business Analysts focused on internal processes rather than market and user insight
    • Growth Marketers — this is not a campaign or acquisition role
    • Anyone who needs direction to know what to research next
    • Anyone who measures success by volume of output rather than quality of insight

    How We Measure Your Success

    You are performing well when:

    • No product or feature gets built at Wazobia without validated research behind it
    • The team is never caught off guard by a competitor move or market shift you should have flagged
    • Your research reports are referenced in product decisions — not filed away and forgotten
    • The PM and leadership can read your findings and know exactly what to do next — without a follow-up meeting
    • Your gap analysis surfaces opportunities that directly influence the product roadmap
