    Gender Coordinator (Re-Advertisement)

    • Contract Duration: 6 Months (renewable)
    • Location: Maiduguri


    Role Purpose

    The Gender and Disability Inclusion Coordinator will provide technical support to mainstream gender and disability as cross-cutting themes for all the programmatic activities across all GPON project. You are to ensure gender and disability is integrated into the results-based management frameworks, strengthening and supporting disability inclusion, gender equality strategies and facilitating gender equality capacity strengthening for field teams via training and tool development, and also provides overall programmatic and operational coordination and management including planning, implementation, capacity enhancement, monitoring/ evaluation and reporting both internally and externally (for/with partners).

    You are responsible for supporting the Programme Manager in the submission of timely and regular progress narrative and financial reports.

    Responsibilities

    Programme Implementation, Coordination & Management:

    • Lead capacity building for GPON staff members on gender to establish safe and protective learning environment for girls and boys in the BAY states
    • Lead capacity building of national stakeholders to facilitate and manage transition from non-formal to formal education in a gender-responsive manner
    • Guided by gender analysis, you will support in advocacy to identify and address policy and system barriers to girls’ education;
    • Develop technical guides, training resource materials, checklists and strategies for mainstreaming gender and disability in the project.
    • Formulate strategies for gender and disability inclusion and ensure that they are effectively implemented on time and within budget.
    • Ensure project activities are carried out with cultural sensitivity while promoting gender equality and disability inclusion of marginalized groups and individuals in the Project
    • Conduct regular gender analysis, community mapping and safety audits to identify and address access and financial barriers to girls’ education in the BAY states
    • With support from the Programme leads, formulate key gender messages and targets from lessons learned, assessments, research and evidence gained through project implementation.
    • Acquire information and understanding of key gender issues in the country particularly in the northwest focusing on boys and girls (e.g., GBV, Early Child Marriage, SRH etc.) and adapt strategies as necessary.
    • Perform other tasks, as required, to ensure the smooth running of the organisation.
    • Ensure a focus on gender equality, gender mainstreaming and disability inclusion in all components of project implementation
    • Develop and facilitate gender and disability inclusion components in training materials and other project tools and resources
    • Ensure accessibility of IEC materials developed on the project
    • Strengthen capacity of project staff, facilitators and volunteers on gender and disability inclusion
    • Support presentation and dissemination of disability components in project documents and meetings

    MEAL: Documentation, Reporting and knowledge management of gender and disability related activities:

    • Support tracking of gender and disability-inclusive and disability-specific project indicators
    • Support MEAL team in disability data collection, analysis and reporting
    • Ensure consultation of beneficiaries with disabilities in project evaluation and learning
    • Develop, publish and document evidence of Project impact for Gender mainstreaming.
    • In collaboration with the MEAL team, collate and disseminate regular project disability inclusion reports
    • Support preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports requiring technical input and any other reports when necessary to his/her supervisor in a timely manner.
    • Support documentation and sharing of impact/success stories and best practices to promote learning.

    Human Resources Management and Development:

    • Working together with the project team to identify learning and development needs of the project teams and develop specific plans to address the learning needs.
    • Build staff, and community volunteers’ capacity on Gender and disability programming

    Internal and external engagements: Networking, collaboration and mentorship

    • Develop and maintain a network of external contacts with key individuals in the government, NGO sector, civil society and the media particularly working on gender issues and participate in gender working group meetings, which may include providing oversight.
    • Engage the relevant gender and disability stakeholders at State and national levels in support of the project cycle management.
    • Ensure coordination of Gender and disability activities with other stakeholders especially Organizations of Persons with Disability, UNHCR and Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Devt.
    • Participate in stakeholder joint engagements, planning meetings, and sector working groups
    • Maintain good coordination and working relationships with UNHCR, Humanitarian Actors, sub-county, district leaders and other central government departments.
    • Ensure transparent targeting of beneficiaries and consideration of gender, disability inclusion and conflict- sensitivity.

    Experience and Technical Competencies

    Essential:

    Qualifications: Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience.

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Development Studies, Social Sciences, Sociology, Human Rights or any other relevant fields.
    • This position requires at least 4 years of experience working in Gender, disability, Environment and natural resources management and Protection development programming, with a strong focus on partnering with the Government Ministries, District authorities and private sector; preferably in fragile contexts.
    • Familiarity with key international standards for humanitarian work (e.g. CP Minimum Standards, Red Cross and Red Crescent Code of Conduct, SPHERE, and the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) Standard, etc.)
    • Broad knowledge and understanding of emerging Gender and Disability inclusion models, approaches and tools, is essential.
    • Experience working with vulnerable communities and familiarity implementing related programs with NNGOs/INGOs
    • Proven facilitation, presentation skills and experience in technical trainings for different categories of participants and stakeholder mapping.
    • Effective in written and verbal communication in English. Ability to communicate in applicable local language(s) is an added advantage.
