The IGCSE French Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality French language instruction to secondary school students in line with the British/IGCSE curriculum.
The role involves developing students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in French while fostering cultural awareness, confidence, and enthusiasm for language learning.
The teacher will prepare students for success in Cambridge/Edexcel IGCSE examinations through engaging, student-centred teaching and effective assessment practices.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging French lessons aligned with the Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE curriculum standards.
Teach French language skills, including speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, and vocabulary development.
Prepare students effectively for IGCSE examinations through structured revision, assessments, and exam practice.
Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and varying ability levels.
Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes active participation and confidence in language learning.
Assess, record, and report on students’ academic progress regularly and accurately.
Develop lesson plans, schemes of work, instructional materials, and classroom resources.
Use technology and interactive teaching strategies to enhance language acquisition and student engagement.
Encourage students’ appreciation of Francophone cultures through co-curricular activities, projects, and events.
Maintain classroom discipline and uphold the school’s safeguarding, behaviour, and academic policies.
Participate in departmental meetings, school events, parents’ meetings, and professional development activities.
Collaborate with colleagues to support curriculum development and continuous improvement within the department.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in French, Modern Languages, Education, or a related field.
Teaching qualification such as PDGE, TRCN certification, or equivalent.
2–3 years teaching experience, preferably within a British or international curriculum school.
Experience preparing students for Cambridge or Edexcel IGCSE French examinations is highly desirable.
Strong command of written and spoken French and English.
