    Finance Officer, African Youth for Peace Development and Empowerment Foundation [AFRYDEV]

    Our client, A reputable NGO; African Youth for Peace Development and Empowerment Foundation [AFRYDEV] is recruiting to fill the position of a Finance Officer who will support in delivering finance team objectives in a timely and accurate fashion. The Finance Officer will be responsible for day-to-day implementation of financial processes; this includes cash management, paying invoice, monitoring budgets, developing financial forecasts, and creating financial reports.

    AFRYDEV is a humanitarian and development organization with over 9 years of technical experience in design, development and implementation of youths, women and girls focused interventions in Northeast Nigeria. Since 2013, we focus on interventions that improves well-being and influence positive social mobility as part of our vision of change that drives and promotes safe societies where conflict-affected communities are empowered to prevent recruitment and radicalization of women and youths, including their participation in violence extremist activities, conflict, and gender-based violence. AFRYDEV is working in three major thematic areas of, community engagement, peace building and social mobility with aim of enhancing quality of lives through provision of basic needs and essential services such as food, livelihood, water, sanitation, and basic health care such as Psychosocial Support, Skill acquisition and capacity building initiatives for youth, women, and girls, Wealth creation and access to socio-economic opportunities, Improving youth and women literacy, access to education, including formal and informal education. Employability skills trainings and job placement, Entrepreneurship Programs, access to opportunities for funding’s and start-up resources. Advocacy, Partnership development and Dialogue. AFRYDEV is currently implementing projects in Damaturu, Potiskum, Gujba, Geidam, Yusufari, Yunusari, Nangere and Fune LGAs Yobe State in the areas of Peace building and Social cohesion, Health, Early recovery and livelihood, Protection; Gender Based Violence and Mines Action.

    About the Position (Task and Responsibilities)

    • Prepare and share monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports.
    • Prepare bank reconciliation statements on a monthly basis for review by the Finance Lead timely.
    • Process, submits receipts and invoices.
    • Receive all documents from the field offices.
    • Review and register the completeness of documents received from the field and report on any omissions/missing documentation.
    • Participate in regular meetings with field office staff to discuss financial items and support the team on the preparation of budgets, fund requests and follow up the settlements of funds transferred.
    • Oversee day-to-day financial management and accounting for (AFRYDEV) projects; maintain and manage financial accounts in coordination with the Executive Director’s instructions.
    • Assist in establishing, maintaining, and updating organizational financial policies and procedures to guide the work of project staff and management.
    • Monitor balances in account receivables and payables, prepare reports on material exceptions to policies or identify long outstanding ones for corrective actions
    • Ensure that all statutory deductions such as Withholding Tax (WHT) are promptly remitted to the relevant statutory authority monthly.
    • Follow up and review all project-related travel requests and liquidations in line with travel policy.
    • Prepare and track project budgets and budget projections; reviews expense reports, vouchers and payment requests, including proper back-up documentation to ensure compliance with established AFRYDEV systems and donor’s requirements
    • Maintain a schedule of recurrent expenditure for Office utilities such as Electricity Bills, Water Bills, Internet Bills, and Security, Cleaning services to ensure that they are all paid and accrued on a timely basis.
    • Timely preparation of statutory deduction payments.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    • Strong organizational and planning skills required; and
    • A creative mind with an ability to suggest improvements.
    • Strong computer skills in MS Office programs.

    Qualification and Skills

    • Degree or HND in a relevant field
    • 3 Previous experiences in a similar position with nonprofit organization is highly desirable.
    • 2 Years in similar position is desirable.
    • Proven intellectual capacity and willingness to learn.
    • Ability to work under pressure, with little or no supervision.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, as well as reasonable communication skill in Hausa language
