Field Supervisor at Deko Integrated and Agro Processing Ltd

We are currently seeking experienced Field Supervisors to join our dynamic team. The successful candidates will play a crucial role in ensuring the optimal growth, development, and yield of our cassava crops. Reporting to the Farm Manager/Cassava Production Manager, the Field Supervisors will assist the Junior Agronomist and be responsible for providing technical expertise in crop management, soil science, land preparation, and pest management. They will collaborate closely with the Agri-team to achieve production targets and implement best practices in agricultural operations.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, or a related field
• Minimum 1-2 year of experience in agriculture or a related field.
• Experience working with cassava or similar crops is a plus.
• Strong understanding of basic crop management principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to learn new skills and adapt to changing priorities.
• Physically fit for outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Valid driver's license preferred

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist the Junior Agronomist in implementing crop management plans for optimal cassava yield and quality.
• Oversee crop planting, maintenance, and harvesting and monitor crop health and identify any issues or pests.
• Assist with data collection and record keeping related to crop monitoring, soil analysis, pest management, and land clearing activities.
• Ensure the farm is running efficiently and effectively.
• Supervise and manage a team of farm workers and coordinate them in their daily tasks, including laborers, tractor operators, and other support staff.
• Help prepare reports on crop performance, soil health, and pest management.
• Work closely with farm workers to ensure they understand and follow best practices in crop management.
• Provide on-the-job training and guidance to farm workers on basic crop management techniques.
• Participate in field trials and demonstrations of new technologies or practices.
• Ensure that all farm equipment is properly maintained and operated.
• Oversee the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and other farm inputs.
• Assist with maintaining a clean and safe work environment on the farm.
• Assist the Agronomist in developing and managing the farm budget.
• Monitor and control costs associated with farm operations, including labor, equipment, and inputs.
• Identify areas for cost savings and implement cost-effective strategies
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures and ensure that all farm workers are following safety protocols and procedures

Working Conditions:

• The role is based on a farm, with frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, rain, and sun
• The role requires frequent walking, standing, and lifting, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
