Job Description

• A Farm Accountant manages the financial activities of an agricultural business (crop farms, livestock operations, agribusiness firms, etc.). The role combines traditional accounting with farm-specific financial tracking.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain accurate financial records (income, expenses, assets) 
• Prepare financial statements (profit & loss, balance sheets) 
• Monitor farm budgets and cash flow 
• Track production costs (seeds, feed, fertilizer, labor)  
• Handle payroll for farm workers 
• Manage inventory records (livestock, crops, supplies) 
• Ensure tax compliance and prepare tax returns 
• Analyze financial performance and advise farm management 
• Work with auditors, banks, or government agencies when needed 

Requirements

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field 
• Professional certifications (e.g., ICAN, ACCA) are often an advantage 

Experience:

• 2–5 years of accounting experience (farm or agribusiness experience is a plus) 
• Experience with bookkeeping and financial reporting 

Skills:

• Strong knowledge of accounting principles 
• Familiarity with agricultural operations (preferred) 
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) 
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills 
• Attention to detail and accuracy 
• Ability to work independently and manage records efficiently 

Other Requirements:

• Basic understanding of farm operations (crop cycles, livestock management) 
• Ability to work in rural or farm environments (sometimes required)
