    Enumerators

    Duty Station: Maiduguri and Bama Local Government Area, Borno State, Nigeria

    Duration: Short-term contract (2–3 weeks per assignment; renewable based on project needs)

    Reports To: Data Collection Supervisor/M&E Officer

    Organization: Transcultural Psychosocial Organization (TPO) Nigeria

    Job Summary

    Enumerators will be responsible for carrying out field data collection activities to support the MEAL unit in various tasks. The role is crucial in producing evidence to guide the design and implementation of targeted assistance to conflict-affected populations across Borno State.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities

    • Participate in comprehensive training on survey tools, ethical data collection, and the use of digital devices.
    • Conduct interviews using structured questionnaires, mobile data collection tools (e.g., KoboToolbox), and other relevant instruments.
    • Collect both quantitative and qualitative data through household interviews, key informant interviews (KIIs), and focus group discussions (FGDs).
    • Ensure accurate, complete, and timely data entry into digital devices as per instructions.
    • Maintain ethical standards in data collection, including confidentiality and informed consent.
    • Liaise with community members and stakeholders respectfully and professionally.
    • Flag and report inconsistencies, problems, or security concerns to supervisors promptly.
    • Provide daily updates to the team leader/supervisor and submit completed forms as required.
    • Support logistics for community entry, mobilization, and respondent recruitment as directed.
    • Comply with all relevant TPO policies and procedures concerning child protection, health and safety, and other relevant policies
    • Perform any other duties that will be assigned by the supervisor

    Required Qualifications and Experience 

    • Minimum of a Diploma or National Certificate in Statistics, Social Sciences, Education, or related field. A bachelor's degree is an added advantage.
    • At least 1 year of experience in data collection, field surveys, or community-based assessments (especially in humanitarian, development, or reintegration settings).
    • Familiarity with the cultural and security context of Borno State, especially Maiduguri and Bama LGAs.

    Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in mobile data collection platforms such as KoboCollect or ODK.
    • Experience in conducting FGDs, KIIs, or household surveys.
    • Ability to communicate fluently in English and at least one local language (Kanuri, Hausa, or Shuwa Arab preferred).
    • Basic knowledge of ethical data collection and safeguarding principles.

    Other Skills:

    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team under tight deadlines.
    • Commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism.
    • Willingness to travel to remote or insecure locations under guidance.

    Working Conditions:

    • Field-based role with frequent travel to beneficiary communities.
    • May involve long hours, mobility, and work in difficult terrain and security-sensitive environments.
