    Electrician

    Scope of Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    • Performing autonomously, complex / advanced hand-working installation and maintenance of electrical, solar systems, and other energy systems in all MSF facilities across the mission (offices, health structures, warehouses, Guest Houses, etc.), according to MSF standards and procedures, to ensure proper functioning and maintenance of MSF equipment and installations.

    Core Technical Areas:
    Generator Systems (Required Hand-Working Skills):

    • Perform generator sizing based on load calculations for offices, hospitals, guesthouses, and warehouses in Abuja.
    • Oversee and carry out generator installation, including cabling, grounding, and protection systems at all MSF premises in Abuja.
    • Conduct testing and commissioning of generators to ensure correct operation, safety, and compliance with standards.
    • Plan and perform routine generator maintenance, fault diagnosis, and corrective actions to ensure an uninterrupted power supply.
    • Train technical logistics staff and watchmen/watchwomen on the operation of generators and changeover switches across all systems at MSF premises in Abuja.

    Solar Energy Systems (Required Hand-Working Skills):

    • Ensure proper installation, operation, and preventive maintenance of solar energy systems at all project facilities, in line with organizational, technical, and safety standards.
    • Conduct routine inspections, troubleshooting, corrective repairs, and performance testing to guarantee system reliability, efficiency, and continuity of the power supply.
    • Monitor solar system performance, identify faults early, and recommend technical improvements or upgrades.
    • Coordinate, supervise, and follow up with contractors and local technical service providers for solar installation, maintenance, and repair activities.
    • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including system layouts, test results, maintenance logs, inventories, and spare-parts records related to solar equipment.

    Electrical Distribution & Power Safety (Required Hand-Working Skills):

    • Label and update electrical distribution boards at all MSF premises (offices, guest houses, hospitals, warehouses) for clarity, safety, and compliance.
    • Install and maintain grounding/earthing systems, perform testing, and ensure readings are within acceptable and safe limits.
    • Carry out regular electrical safety and performance tests, including:
      • Insulation Resistance Tests for all electrical cables.
      • Earth Resistance Tests.
      • VT35 voltage and installation tests.
      • RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) functional tests.
    • Ensure all test results meet required standards and take corrective action where needed.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Ensure all electrical installations comply with MSF standards, performing autonomous complex/advanced electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs according to supervisor instructions.
    • Carry out critical rehabilitation tasks, corrective maintenance interventions, and the coordination/execution of required tasks and equipment installations as defined by each project.
    • Elaborate necessary documentation for carrying out energy installation projects (plans, lists of materials, etc.).
    • Carry out and update the electrical installations inventory in MSF mission facilities and perform annual maintenance procedures and safety checks. Execute needed tests after any repair or maintenance.
    • Identify local technical actors and organize their participation in the project (training of technical staff, establishing relations with local companies, contractors, and suppliers, obtaining quotations, managing contracts, etc.).
    • Make suggestions regarding repair or maintenance work needed in MSF electrical installations and provide the logistics department with urgent support, advice, or related work.
    • Manage the stock of consumable items related to electrical installation, repairs, and maintenance; fill out stock cards, carry out physical stock inventories, and execute orders necessary for renewing stock to avoid shortages.
    • Maintain responsibility for equipment and tools (including extinguishers), checking that they are correctly and safely used, maintaining and renewing them when necessary, and keeping the inventory updated.
    • Keep the working area clean and tidy.
    • Ensure all record sheets and books related to maintenance are completed and prepare needed reports before and after any repair or required maintenance.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Education: Essential Electrician diploma or recognized formal training.
    • Experience: Previous working experience as an electrician and Solar System Technician is required (minimum 2 years’ experience). This must include:
      • Experience in solar systems.
      • Experience in generators, power sizing tools, and ATS (Automatic Transfer Switches).
      • Experience in electrical troubleshooting.
      • Practical hand-working experience.
    • Languages: English.
    • Knowledge: Hand-working skills and ability, along with familiarity with drawing software.
