    Driver

    JOB PURPOSE

    • The Driver is responsible for the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of staff, visitors, goods, documents, and organizational assets using assigned operational vehicles. The role holder shall ensure strict compliance with Nigerian road traffic regulations, organizational policies, vehicle maintenance standards, and safety procedures while maintaining the highest levels of professionalism, confidentiality, and customer service.
    • The Driver serves as an ambassador of the organization and is expected to conduct all transportation activities with integrity, courtesy, and a strong commitment to safety.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Transportation Services

    • Safely transport staff, management, consultants, visitors, partners, and authorized passengers to designated locations.
    • Drive organizational vehicles for official duties within and outside assigned locations.
    • Ensure passengers reach destinations safely and on schedule.
    • Support field visits, project activities, meetings, workshops, conferences, and other organizational events.
    • Assist with airport pickups and drop-offs for staff, visitors, and stakeholders.
    • Transport organizational documents, equipment, supplies, and materials as required.
    • Plan travel routes to minimize delays and optimize fuel efficiency.

    Vehicle Management and Maintenance

    • Conduct daily vehicle inspections before and after use.
    • Ensure vehicles are roadworthy at all times.
    • Check and maintain fuel, engine oil, brake fluid, coolant, tyre pressure, battery condition, lights, and other essential vehicle components.
    • Report faults, damages, accidents, or maintenance requirements promptly.
    • Coordinate routine servicing and preventive maintenance schedules.
    • Keep vehicles clean, presentable, and in excellent operating condition.
    • Ensure all vehicle accessories and safety equipment are functional and available.

    Safety and Compliance

    • Comply with all Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) regulations and Nigerian traffic laws.
    • Observe organizational fleet management and transportation policies.
    • Practice defensive driving techniques and maintain high safety standards.
    • Ensure the use of seat belts by all passengers.
    • Avoid reckless driving, speeding, distracted driving, and unsafe road practices.
    • Immediately report accidents, incidents, security threats, and near misses.
    • Adhere to journey management and travel authorization procedures.

    Documentation and Record Keeping

    • Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks and mileage records.
    • Record fuel purchases, maintenance activities, and repairs.
    • Ensure vehicle documents are valid and current, including:
    • Vehicle Registration
    • Insurance Certificate
    • Road Worthiness Certificate
    • Hackney Permit (where applicable)
    • Vehicle License
    • Organizational Vehicle Authorization Documents
    • Submit transportation and vehicle reports as required.

    Security Responsibilities

    • Monitor security situations and provide updates on travel routes.
    • Ensure vehicles are parked in safe and authorized locations.
    • Maintain awareness of security risks during travel, particularly in high-risk operational areas.
    • Follow organizational security protocols and movement procedures.
    • Safeguard organizational property and assets under custody.

    Administrative Support

    • Assist with logistics and administrative errands as assigned.
    • Support procurement and delivery activities when required.
    • Assist in loading and unloading materials, ensuring proper handling of organizational assets.
    • Support office operations during periods of low transportation activity.

    Professional Conduct

    • Demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, and respect in dealings with staff, visitors, government officials, and stakeholders.
    • Maintain confidentiality regarding organizational activities and sensitive information.
    • Present a neat and professional appearance at all times.
    • Avoid unauthorized use of organizational vehicles.
    • Uphold the organization's values, policies, and Code of Conduct.

    KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

    The Driver shall be evaluated based on:

    • Number of accident-free driving days.
    • Timeliness of transportation services.
    • Vehicle cleanliness and roadworthiness.
    • Compliance with maintenance schedules.
    • Accuracy and completeness of logbook records.
    • Fuel efficiency management.
    • Compliance with organizational policies and road safety regulations.
    • Customer satisfaction from staff and passengers.
    • Timely reporting of vehicle issues and incidents.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    • Minimum of OND
    • Additional vocational training in driving or transportation management is an advantage.

    Professional Certifications

    • Valid Nigerian Driver's License appropriate for the vehicle category.
    • Valid FRSC driver's certification where applicable.
    • Defensive Driving Certification is an added advantage.

    EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional driving experience.
    • Experience driving operational vehicles for corporate organizations, NGOs, healthcare institutions, development organizations, educational institutions, or government agencies is preferred.
    • Demonstrated experience driving on interstate routes within Nigeria.
    • Experience driving both manual and automatic transmission vehicles.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

    • Good knowledge of Nigerian road networks and traffic regulations.
    • Understanding of vehicle maintenance principles.
    • Knowledge of defensive driving practices.
    • Familiarity with GPS navigation systems and route planning applications.
    • Knowledge of basic vehicle troubleshooting.
    • Awareness of security and safety procedures during official travel.

    • Requirement to maintain flexibility in supporting operational needs.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    The Driver must:

    • Be physically fit and medically capable of performing driving duties.
    • Have no history of serious traffic violations or criminal convictions relating to transportation.
    • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of Nigerian road safety standards.
    • Be willing to travel extensively when operational requirements demand.
    • Maintain a clean driving record throughout employment.
