    Disability Inclusion Advisor

    Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract
    Specific Hours: 35 hours per week

    About the Role 

    • As the Disability Inclusion Advisor you will be responsible for providing disability inclusion technical guidance as part of an inclusive family planning project in Kaduna State, Nigeria. 
    • The Disability Inclusion Advisor will work closely with Sightsavers global and country teams, consortium partners, and local stakeholders, the post holder will oversee the design and implementation of activities in selected Local Government Areas (LGAs), aimed at promoting access to family planning services and sexual and reproductive health and rights for people with disabilities, and in particular adolescent girls and young women with disabilities. 
    • This role will be partially seconded to the Lafiya programme led by Palladium in Northern Nigeria, to provide technical support around mainstreaming disability inclusion into their work. 

    Key Duties and Accountabilities

    • Coordinate the engagement of organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) to promote their active involvement in all project activities – particularly ensuring active participation of women-led OPDs and wings, and the involvement of under-represented groups of persons with disabilities
    • Coordinate the development and roll out of disability training activities for service providers and other relevant stakeholders
    • Lead the implementation of accessibility audits within selected project facilities – including drafting of audit reports, action plans and budgets, and technical oversight of accessibility renovations
    • Contribute to institutionalising a culture of disability inclusion in the Lafiya programme, fostering meaningful partnerships directly with states, Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and OPDs
    • Coordinate the engagement of OPDs to promote their active involvement in advocacy activities of the Lafiya programme – particularly ensuring active participation of women-led OPDs and wings, and the involvement of under-represented groups of persons with disabilities
    • Coordinate the roll out of disability training activities for Lafiya programme staff, stakeholders, and partners
    • Provide technical guidance to support the use of an inclusion scorecard at facility level
    • Actively engage in the project steering committee
    • Actively engage in the leadership of the Lafiya programme to identify relevant opportunities for disability inclusion.

    About You 

    • As the successful candidate you will have equivalent practical experience in a relevant field (Social Work / Social Inclusion, Disability Studies, Public Health, International Development etc.), or a Post Graduate qualification
    • Proven experience in disability inclusive programming in low-resource settings 
    • Prior experience of working in family planning and sexual and reproductive health and rights programmes is desirable
    • Strong understanding and proven technical knowledge in accessibility, disability mainstreaming, gender equity and intersectionality
    • Experience in developing approaches aimed at reaching the most marginalised groups of people with disabilities is desirable
    • Experience in developing and adapting programme guidance tools and other resource materials
    • Experience in collating, synthesising and disseminating best practice guidance, research and programme learning
    • Good knowledge of the key networks and organisations working on social inclusion and disability in the context of Nigeria, especially in Kaduna 
    • Fluent written and spoken English and Hausa is required.
