    Cost Analyst

    Job Summary

    The Cost Analyst will collect and analyze financial information related to the organization’s expenses, seeking ways to improve accuracy of budgets and forecasts, and to decrease the cost of assigned departments and projects.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Analyzes expenses and cost transactions; ensures that transactions are recorded accurately and assigned to the appropriate projects and departments.
    • Provides detailed financial analysis and reports of expenses, including breakdowns of project costs, forecasts of remaining expenses, and opportunities to increase efficiency.
    • Conducts market research as needed to recommend changes to pricing or business models.
    • Prepares periodic cost reconciliation reports tracking data such as changing labor and supply costs.
    • Collect and evaluate financial information
    • Determine standard costs and evaluate differences between standard and actual costs.
    • Prepare detailed reports on a regular and ad-hoc basis.
    • Assist management in making key cost-benefit decisions (e.g. investments, market growth, pricing changes)
    • Create and manage budgets, and also keep track of spending.
    • Conduct financial process and transaction audits.
    • Changes in procedures or methods should be tracked to determine the impact on total expenses.
    • Calculate the costs of existing and new items.
    • Process, labour, and inventory expenses are forecasted and analyzed.
    • Propose cost-cutting or profit-generating alternatives.
    • Conduct market research to inform future company decisions.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Excellent analytical skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software as well as accounting software.
    • Data, operational, and financial analytical expertise
    • Strong analytical skills and knowledge of accounting processes and software
    • A keen sense of business
    • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field required.
    • At least two years of related experience required.
