Supervises: Corrosion technicians and specialist contractors, as assigned

    Role Purpose

Identify, assess, and control corrosion and materials-degradation threats across pipelines, tanks, structures, and process facilities, providing technically sound inspection, mitigation, monitoring, and repair recommendations throughout the asset life cycle.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain corrosion management strategies, corrosion loops, degradation-mechanism reviews, inspection scopes, and monitoring plans.
    • Assess internal and external corrosion threats using design data, process conditions, inspection history, materials, coating condition, and operating context.
    • Specify and review corrosion-control measures including material selection, corrosion allowance, coatings/linings, cathodic protection, inhibitors, and environmental controls.
    • Interpret UT thickness data, corrosion maps, NDT results, coupons/probes, coating surveys, and inspection findings to determine trends and remaining integrity concerns.
    • Support risk-based inspection, fitness-for-service screening, repair prioritisation, and integrity operating window reviews.
    • Prepare technical scopes and acceptance criteria for blasting, coating, lining, structural repair, pipeline remediation, and corrosion-monitoring work.
    • Review contractor procedures, qualifications, materials, inspection plans, and reports; coordinate third-party testing and specialist studies.
    • Investigate corrosion failures and quality incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and recommend sustainable corrective actions.
    • Maintain auditable corrosion records and communicate risks, recommended actions, cost/schedule implications, and residual risk to stakeholders.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Materials/Metallurgical, Corrosion, Chemical, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
    • Typically 8 or more years of corrosion, materials, coating, inspection, or asset-integrity experience in oil and gas or process facilities.
    • Practical experience with corrosion mapping, coating/lining systems, pipeline/tank/facility degradation, and inspection-data interpretation.
    • Ability to prepare clear technical assessments, inspection scopes, repair recommendations, and risk-based priorities.
    • Experience coordinating vendors, laboratories, inspection contractors, and operations teams.

    Preferred Certifications and Standards Knowledge

    • AMPP/NACE corrosion or coating certification is strongly preferred.
    • API 570/653, cathodic-protection, RBI, or fitness-for-service training is advantageous.
    • Working knowledge of NACE/AMPP SP0169, SP0178, SP0188; SSPC surface-preparation standards; API and relevant ASME requirements.

    Core Competencies

    • Corrosion threat assessment
    • Materials and coating selection
    • Inspection and monitoring data interpretation
    • Risk-based integrity decision-making
    • Failure investigation and technical reporting

    Key Performance Measures

    • Corrosion monitoring and inspection plan completed to schedule
    • High-risk degradation threats identified and actioned promptly
    • Effectiveness of mitigation and reduction in repeat damage
    • Accuracy and usability of corrosion assessments and recommendations
    • Integrity actions closed within risk-based target dates
