    Clearing & Forwarding Officer

    Job Summary

    • The Clearing and Forwarding Officer is responsible for coordinating and executing end-to end customs clearance and cargo forwarding activities for import and export shipments. The role ensures full compliance with regulatory requirements, accurate documentation, timely cargo release, and seamless coordination with internal teams, customs authorities, and external partners. In a digital freight environment, the role also supports data accuracy, system updates, and process optimization to deliver efficient, transparent, and customer centric logistics services.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities

    • Manage customs clearance processes for import and export shipments across sea, air, and land freight.
    • Prepare, review, and submit all required clearance documentation (PAAR, Form M, HS Codes, invoices,
      packing lists, BL/AWB, etc.).
    • Liaise with customs authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines, airlines, and regulatory agencies to ensure timely cargo release.
    • Coordinate cargo forwarding from ports/airports to final delivery points, including haulage and last mile delivery.
    • Ensure compliance with all local and international trade regulations, customs laws, and company policies.
    • Update shipment status, clearance milestones, and documentation on the company's digital freight platform.
    • Resolve clearance issues, delays, or discrepancies promptly and escalate where necessary.
    • Collaborate with Sales, Customer Experience, and Operations teams to deliver seamless door-to-door services.
    • Monitor clearance timelines, costs, and exceptions, providing regular reports and insights.
    • Support continuous improvement of clearance and forwarding processes to improve turnaround time and cost efficiency.
    • Maintain proper records and audit-ready documentation for all cleared shipments.

     

    Competencies and Skill Requirements

    Technical & Functional Skills

    • Strong understanding of customs clearance procedures and trade documentation
    • Knowledge of HS classification, tariffs, duties, and regulatory requirements
    • Familiarity with port and airport operations
    • Ability to work with digital freight platforms and logistics systems
    • Basic data analysis and reporting skills

    • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple shipments simultaneously

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Bachelor degree or HND in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in clearing and forwarding, customs brokerage, or logistics operations
    • Hands-on experience with import/export clearance processes
    • Relevant professional certification (e.g., NAGAFF, ANLCA, or equivalent) is an added advantage
    • Experience working in a technology-enabled or digital logistics environment is a plus
