    Chief Engineer

    Job Summary:

    • Overall technical authority responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of all machinery, mechanical systems, and engineering functions onboard the vessel.
    • Ensure full technical readiness, regulatory compliance, asset protection, and cost-effective engineering operations in support of DAJO Energy Limited’s marine logistics and vessel activities.

    Job Responsibilities:

     Engineering Command & Technical Leadership

    • Assume full responsibility for all engine room operations, machinery, and technical systems onboard
    • Exercise complete technical authority over propulsion, power generation, auxiliary machinery, and mechanical systems
    • Ensure uninterrupted vessel operations through proactive engineering leadership and decision- making
    • Serve as the principal technical adviser to the Master and shore management.

     Machinery Operation & Maintenance

    • Plan, supervise, and execute all preventive, planned, and corrective maintenance activities
    •  Ensure optimal performance of:
      • Main engines
      • Generators
      • Boilers
      • Pumps
      • Compressors
      • Steering and propulsion systems
    • Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and automation faults and implement effective solutions
    • Minimise downtime through disciplined maintenance planning and rapid fault response.

     Safety, Compliance & Regulatory Control

    • Ensure full compliance with:
    • International maritime conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW)
    • Flag State and Class requirements
    • NIMASA and other applicable regulatory standards
    • Implement and maintain the engineering components of the vessel’s Safety Management System (SMS)
    • Lead engine room emergency preparedness, drills, and response procedures
    • Ensure readiness for inspections, audits, surveys, and statutory certifications

     Asset Integrity & Lifecycle Management

    • Protect the vessel as a high-value business asset through disciplined engineering management
    • Monitor machinery condition and manage lifecycle planning for critical equipment
    • Oversee spare parts management, technical inventories, and requisitions
    • Advise management on major repairs, overhauls, dry-docking, and technical upgrades

    Cost Control & Resource Management

    • Control engineering operating costs without compromising safety or performance
    • Optimise fuel consumption, lubricants, and consumables
    • Review technical expenditures and recommend cost-effective solutions
    • Support budgeting and forecasting for engineering-related expenses

     Engine Room Crew Management & Development

    • Lead, supervise, and mentor all engine department personnel
    • Allocate duties, manage watch schedules, and enforce discipline
    • Ensure competence, certification validity, and safety awareness of engineering crew
    • Build a culture of professionalism, accountability, and technical excellence

     Reporting & Shore Interface

    • Prepare and submit detailed technical, maintenance, and incident reports
    • Act as the primary technical liaison between the vessel and shore-based management
    • Provide engineering input into operational planning and commercial decisions
    • Support vessel onboarding, transition, and handover processes

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Valid Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (STCW III/2) issued by NIMASA or an equivalent recognised authority
    • Minimum of 20–30 years total maritime engineering experience on commercial vessels
    • Extensive experience progressing through junior and senior engineering ranks
    • Proven experience as a Chief Engineer or senior engineering officer on operational vessels
    • Strong background in marine logistics, maritime services, or commercial vessel operations
    • Demonstrated experience operating in regulated, safety-critical marine environments
    • Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Marine Engineering or a related discipline is an added advantage
