    Central Control Room Operator

    Role Purpose

    The objective of the Central Control Room Operator is to organise and coordinate the production shift team to achieve safe and efficient production of quality products, while optimising effectiveness and cost per tonne.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Operate the equipment according to HBM Nigeria Best Practice, with due consideration for the safety of personnel and equipment.
    • Control all major process lines within the cement manufacturing operation, including equipment commissioning, start-ups, shutdowns and emergency condition management, as per established SOPs, in order to meet production requirements.
    • Continuously monitor all plant process lines using all available tools to ensure employee safety, stable equipment operation, equipment integrity within prescribed design limitations, operating targets and environmental regulations.
    • Contribute to maintaining equipment in good working condition by complying with instructions for use, regularly monitoring the equipment and advising the Maintenance Department when necessary.
    • Ensure protection of the environment in compliance with Huaxin Group standards within the fields of activities.
    • Coordinate with production fieldmen for the smooth operation of the plant.
    • Maintain quality within the range defined in the Quality Management System (QMS).
    • Monitor production results (production volume, energy consumption, etc.) in order to meet the agreed Plant KPIs.
    • Follow operational procedures (SOPs) in the execution of all tasks in the plant.
    • Operate all equipment within HBM Nigeria and local environmental protection standards.
    • Direct the activities of Patrollers, Process Assistants and mobile plant operators.
    • Direct breakdown and problem-solving activities, including troubleshooting and determination of related overtime staffing needs.
    • Follow continuous quality monitoring and make necessary adjustments to systems.
    • Serve as liaison with the Automation Engineer regarding problems with major equipment.
    • Serve as Plant Emergency Response Coordinator in the event of a serious production, environmental or safety incident.
    • Champion the development and review of Standard Operating Procedures for the Production Department.
    • Conduct and lead safety meetings with shift personnel.
    • Monitor all radio communications for problems and difficulties in the plant.
    • Complete paperwork and record-keeping as required, including production and equipment reliability logs, work order entries, mill operating report data, etc.
    • Assist in the operational and safety training of existing employees and the induction of new employees.
    • Complete and conduct performance reviews of hourly employees in the Production Department.
    • Comply with EMS Production Instrumentation activities.
    • Ensure involvement in the implementation and maintenance of the Integrated Management System in the plant.

    Requirements

    Critical Knowledge

    • Completion of the professional-level CCRO certification programme.
    • Good knowledge of the operation and control of Vertical Roller Mill, Kiln and Finish Mill systems.
    • Good knowledge of product quality parameters and quality control tests.
    • Good knowledge of computer-aided systems for kiln and mill operation.
    • Ability to take initiative based on sound problem-solving skills.

    Critical Experience

    • 2–3 years’ experience in a process industry, or OND in an Engineering discipline with Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Chemistry or Physics as the main subject.
    • 5–8 years’ experience in the cement industry.
