    Boat Mechanic - All Interested Candidates

    Summary

    • The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (48 hours per week)
    • Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

    Duties

    • Incumbent serves as RAO's mechanic for 3 boats and 3 vehicles. Services and maintains all vehicles and vessels in a cost effective and timely manner. Incumbent serves as the main boat pilot within Nigeria and surrounding countries, to include Benin. 
    • Serves as a primary cash custodian, for various amounts of cash, and serve as the local procurement POC for the boat parts, beach house purchases, and RAO vehicle parts. 
    • Manages the timetable, schedule, and rotation of RAO boats/vehicle maintenance; to include the collection of maintenance records and data. 

    Qualifications and Evaluations
    Education Requirements:

    • Completion of Secondary School with vocational training in boat mechanic workmanship is required. 

    Experience: 

    • A minimum of 2 years professional boat/vehicle repairs and maintenance experience is required.

    Job Knowledge:

    • Good working knowledge of proper etiquette for the host country is required for all communication outside the mission.
    • Good working knowledge of the Nigeria waterways and various locations around Lagos, Nigeria accessible by water.
    • Must know multiple safe routes to travel to Benin by water.
    • Must have a good working knowledge of effective and safe boat piloting operations.  
    • Must have good knowledge of boat/vehicles engines and maintenance.

    Evaluations:

    • This may be tested. Please specify in your application your level of proficiency in language(s) listed.

    Language: 

    • Limited working knowledge of Reading / Writing / Speaking English is required.
    • Limited working knowledge of Reading / Writing / Speaking Yoruba is required.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Must have a valid boat pilot license. Must have the ability to drive carefully and cautiously in heavy rain or congested waterways.
    • Must be able to recognize hazardous or dangerous situation and take appropriate defensive action.
    • Must be able to pilot the boat at all hours of the day, for various lengths of time. Must be able to service and maintain RAO boats and vehicles as needed. Must be able to accurately and effectively keep maintenance records and schedules, prioritizing the purchasing of needed parts.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft office programs, basic bookkeeping practices and time management is required. 
    • Basic proficiency in time management, cash handling is required. Working various hours on a daily basis is required. 
    • Must be able to read and understand documents, write clearly and communicate clearly on the phone or by radio when necessary.
    • Must be able to coordinate travel of officers on short notice.

    Benefits and Other Info
    Salary: USD31,083 (N4,809,418) Annually

    Agency Benefits:

    • Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Lagos, Nigera may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
    • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
    • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
