Backend Software Engineer at HelpMum

Job Summary

• HelpMum Africa is looking for a skilled Backend Software Engineer to develop and maintain health-focused software products.
• This role involves building and maintaining web applications, a WhatsApp chatbot (using a custom language), and implementing serverless solutions.
• The ideal candidate possesses 2-3 years of experience, and proficiency in Node.js, Express, SQL/MongoDB, and cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Firebase).
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills are essential. Experience with JavaScript, React, Chakra UI, and API development best practices is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Development of health-related software products aimed at alleviating infant mortality in Nigeria
• Continuous development and maintenance of maternal health web applications and infrastructure
• Continuous development and maintenance of the WhatsApp chatbot using a custom coding language
• Implementation of serverless abstractions and automation to simplify processes
• Write clean, efficient, and maintainable code following best practices
• Work closely with product managers, software engineers, and other stakeholders to understand integration requirements and provide technical solutions.
• Implement and adhere to security best practices in API development. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations related to payment solutions

QUALIFICATION:

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field

Experience:

• 2-3 years of proven work experience in building and maintaining software systems.
• Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals.

Technical Skills:

• Ability to learn a custom coding language.
• Proficient in Nodejs, express, SQL DB, MongoDB with hands-on experience in developing and showcasing multiple projects.
• Maintain best practices and use up-to-date software implementations.
• Experience with Google Cloud Platform/ AWS, Firebase, and Cloud Functions.
• Build APIs with speed and high performance
• Knowledge of Javascript, React Js, and Chakra UI is a plus.
• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g Git).

• Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Proactive attitude towards identifying and resolving challenges.
