Backend Engineer (Node.js) - Conversational Banking Platform

Compensation: ₦500,000 – ₦1,000,000

Job Overview

Help build the chat-based banking assistant customers use to send money, pay bills and manage their accounts. You’ll join a small Lagos team, own features from design to production, and improve both conversational quality and the reliability of money flows.

Responsibilities

• Build Node.js chat flows with reliable session state and clear customer messages.
• Test intent routing and answers against replay cases; guard model output.
• Integrate banking APIs with safe retries, idempotency and reconciliation.
• Investigate incidents through logs, SQL, Redis and Linux servers.
• Ship unit tests, replay fixtures and security fixes alongside features.
• Review code and maintain merge notes and runbooks.

Requirements

• 4-8 years of experience
• 4+ years of production Node.js backend development
• Express and long-running stateful services
• SQL and Redis
• Third-party API integration
• Transaction idempotency and failure handling
• Linux incident response
• Clear written communication
• Node.js conversational flows and session state
• Banking API integration, including REST and SOAP/XML
• Payment idempotency and transaction failure handling
• LLM intent routing and replay-based evaluation
• Deterministic AI output guardrails
• SQL production debugging
• Redis session-state debugging
• Linux and log-based incident investigation

Preferred Qualifications

• Oracle
• SOAP/XML integration
• Signed requests or payment rails
