Aviation Insurance Executive at Ascentech Services Limited

About the Role:

• We are hiring for our client an Aviation Insurance Executive that will be responsible for sourcing, structuring, and managing aviation-related insurance programs for both primary clients (e.g., airlines, aircraft operators) and cedants requiring facultative reinsurance placements.
• This is a client-facing and technically driven role that demands deep understanding of aviation exposures, policy structures, reinsurer engagement, and compliance with Nigerian regulatory standards.

International Support:

• This role will receive continuous technical guidance and placement assistance from KMD’s international aviation reinsurance team. The selected candidate will also benefit from capacity-building opportunities, including periodic training, exposure to global aviation markets, and participation in offshore placements.

Key Responsibilities:

Direct Broking:

• Engage directly with aviation clients to assess their insurance needs.
• Structure and negotiate insurance placements for Hull All Risks, Passenger Liability, Hull War, Crew PA, and Airport Liability.
• Liaise with Nigerian underwriters to secure competitive quotes and finalize coverage.
• Coordinate the preparation and issuance of slips, binders, debit notes, and policy documentation.

Reinsurance (Facultative) Broking:

• Support insurers in placing aviation risks into the facultative market.
• Draft and present facultative reinsurance slips and endorsements.
• Liaise with international reinsurers for capacity, terms, and quotations.
• Coordinate with KMD and other partners on offshore placements.
• Ensure documentation meets NAICOM and NCRIB regulatory filing standards.

Claims Support & Market Development:

• Assist in claims notifications and support documentation.
• Build strong relationships with underwriters, reinsurers, and claims adjusters.
• Identify new business opportunities across Nigeria's growing aviation sector.
• Stay abreast of market developments, aviation trends, and regulatory updates.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

• A Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Aviation Management, Risk Management, or a related field is required.
• A Master’s degree or postgraduate diploma in Insurance, Risk, or Aviation Safety will be an added advantage.
• Courses in Aviation Law, Airline Operations, or Aerospace Risk Management are desirable.

Certifications:

• CIIN (Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria) certification is required.
• ACII (UK) or CPCU (US) certifications are highly preferred.
• Additional certifications in aviation safety, airworthiness, or reinsurance (e.g., ARe from The Institutes, or Aviation Risk Certification) will be advantageous.
• ICAO-endorsed training or IATA Insurance & Risk Management certifications are also desirable.

Experience:

• Minimum of 4–6 years of progressive experience in insurance or reinsurance, with at least 2 years focused specifically on aviation risks.
• Experience working with airlines, aviation regulators, or reinsurance firms handling aviation portfolios.
• Strong background in placing aviation policies and negotiating facultative placements.
• Familiarity with Nigerian aviation clients, insurers, reinsurers, and regulatory documentation processes.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong technical understanding of aviation risks and coverages.
• Slip preparation and negotiation expertise.
• Ability to manage both client relationships and technical documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office tools and PDF documentation platforms.
