    Audit Officer

    Overview

    • We ares eeking a competent, analytical, detail-oriented and highly disciplined Audit Officer to join our team.
    • The successful candidate will support the Audit function in ensuring effective internal controls, compliance with company policies, proper accountability of company resources, accurate financial and operational records, and the prevention of fraud, loss and operational leakages across the organization.

    Key Responsibilities
    The Audit Officer will be responsible for, but not limited to:
    Operational & Station Audits:

    • Conduct routine and periodic audits across company stations and operational locations.
    • Review station operations to ensure compliance with approved policies, procedures and SOPs.
    • Verify daily sales, cash collections, banking records and supporting documents.
    • Review station expenses, purchases and other transactions for proper authorization and documentation.
    • Identify operational irregularities, control weaknesses and areas of potential loss.

    Cash & Sales Verification::

    • Verify cash collections from Customer Service Attendants and Cashiers against sales records.
    • Reconcile cash, POS, transfer and banking records.
    • Investigate cash shortages, overages and unexplained variances.
    • Confirm that all collections are properly accounted for and banked in line with company procedures.
    • Escalate significant discrepancies and control breaches promptly.

    Stock & Inventory Audit:

    • Conduct physical verification of petroleum products, lubricants, materials, spare parts and other inventories.
    • Compare physical stock with system and documentary records.
    • Identify and investigate stock variances, shortages and unexplained movements.
    • Review controls around the receipt, storage, issuance and utilization of company materials.
    • Support periodic stock-taking exercises and prepare appropriate reports.

    Compliance & Internal Controls:

    • Monitor compliance with company policies, procedures, controls and Management directives.
    • Review the effectiveness of existing controls and identify gaps requiring improvement.
    • Verify that transactions are properly authorized and supported by relevant documentation.
    • Follow up on previously reported audit findings and monitor implementation of corrective actions.

    Investigation & Risk Management:

    • Support investigations into suspected fraud, theft, financial irregularities, policy violations and other control breaches.
    • Gather and analyze relevant documents, records and evidence during investigations.
    • Identify operational and financial risks and recommend practical control measures.
    • Maintain confidentiality and professional objectivity throughout audit and investigation activities.

    Audit Reporting:

    • Prepare clear and accurate audit reports highlighting findings, exceptions, risks and recommendations.
    • Maintain proper audit working papers and supporting documentation.
    • Present audit findings to the appropriate reporting authority when required.
    • Follow up on agreed management actions and report outstanding issues.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree / HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related discipline.
    • Professional accounting or audit qualification/certification is an advantage.
    • 7–10years of relevant experience in Internal Audit, External Audit, Accounting, Compliance, Risk or a related function.
    • Previous experience in petroleum retail, logistics, haulage, manufacturing or multi-location operations is an added advantage.
    • Good knowledge of auditing principles, internal controls and financial procedures.
    • Strong numerical, analytical and reconciliation skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other relevant accounting/ERP systems.
    • Excellent attention to detail and investigative ability.
    • Ability to identify discrepancies, control weaknesses and operational risks.
    • Strong report-writing and communication skills.
    • High level of integrity, confidentiality, discipline and professional ethics.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    • Willingness to travel to company stations and operational locations when required.
