Associate Counsel at Kredete

About the Role

• We are seeking an Associate Counsel to join our legal team and provide strategic and practical legal support across Kredete’s operations.
• The ideal candidate will be experienced in corporate and commercial law, contract negotiation, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
• This role offers the opportunity to work closely with leadership and cross-functional teams while contributing to a fast-growing fintech environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including vendor, partnership, and technology agreements.
• Provide legal advice on regulatory and compliance matters impacting fintech, payments, and financial services.
• Support corporate governance activities, including board resolutions, filings, and corporate records management.
• Advise on employment law matters and support People & Culture in HR-related legal issues.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to identify legal risks in product development and ensure compliance with applicable laws.
• Manage external counsel engagements and ensure cost-effective legal support.
• Stay updated on legal and regulatory developments affecting the fintech industry.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and admission to practice law in Nigeria (BL required; advanced degree/LL.M is a plus).
• 3–5 years of post-call experience in a law firm or as in-house counsel, preferably in fintech, banking, or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, and regulatory law.
• Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex agreements.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with data privacy, intellectual property, or financial regulations.
• Prior in-house experience at a fintech, bank, or technology company.
• Familiarity with international legal frameworks and cross-border transactions.
