    Advocacy Support Officer

    General Job Description:

    The Advocacy Support Officer will provide technical and operational support for the implementation of multi-level advocacy activities under the SDC localisation project. The role will strengthen community, stakeholder, media, donor and institutional advocacy efforts, ensuring coherent messaging, visibility, and influence toward advancing CP and GBV localisation objectives with Terre des Hommes (Tdh) and partner organisations.

    Specific Responsibilities

    More specifically he/she has the following responsibilities:

    • COMMUNITY-LEVEL ADVOCACY SUPPORT (with Partners)
    • Support community partners to design, plan, and deliver CP and GBV community advocacy activities. Assist in identifying community focal points (leaders, influencers, youth/women groups) and ensure targeted, culturally sensitive messaging.
    • Co-facilitate awareness sessions, community dialogues, town hall engagements, and behavioural influence campaigns. Lead development of IEC materials for local advocacy events. Document best practices, success stories, and community feedback. 

    STAKEHOLDER-LEVEL ADVOCACY (with Partners)

    • Support partners to engage LGA officials, traditional/religious leaders, and service providers.
    • Coordinate stakeholder forums aimed at reinforcing localisation, CP, and GBV priorities.
    • Draft briefing notes, key messages, and advocacy packages for use by partners. Track commitments or recommendations emerging from stakeholder engagements.

    MEDIA-LEVEL ADVOCACY

    • Support planning and coordination of media engagements (radio programs, interviews, feature stories). Liaise with media partners for advocacy amplification and safe, ethical reporting. Ensure CP/GBV-sensitive messaging in all media outputs.
    • Guide partners in community radio advocacy content development.

    Tdh INSTITUTIONAL ADVOCACY

    • Provide administrative and technical support for internal advocacy toward Tdh Regional and HQ levels. Assist in developing internal advocacy briefs showcasing localisation achievements.
    • Coordinate documentation of results, case studies, and lessons learned for internal learning platforms. Support preparation of presentations, summaries, and follow-up actions from advocacy missions.

    DONOR-LEVEL ADVOCACY SUPPORT

    • Assist in planning donor engagement meetings, preparing talking points, briefs, and evidence summaries. Track changes in donor interest/commitment and support analysis for MEAL use.
    • Coordinate documentation of donor feedback and ensure systematic follow-up.

    COMMUNICATION, DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING

    • Lead documentation of advocacy events, success stories, and evidence for influence. Maintain an updated advocacy activity tracker and contribute to monthly/quarterly reports. Support development of visibility materials aligned with donor and Tdh branding guidelines. Work closely with MEAL to monitor advocacy outcomes and changes in stakeholder behaviour.

    • Perform any other related duties assigned by the supervisor to advance the localisation, CP, and GBV goals of the project.

    Skills

    • Strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.
    • Ability to simplify complex concepts into advocacy messages.
    • Experience producing IEC materials or media content.
    • Good understanding of humanitarian and localisation principles.
    • Ability to engage multiple stakeholders at different levels (community to donor).
    • Strong report writing and documentation skills.
    • Ability to maintain neutrality, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
    • Proficiency in English and local languages (advantage).

    Job Requirements/Required Conditions

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Communications, International Relations or related field.

    Professional Experience

    • Minimum 2–3 years experience in advocacy, communications, community mobilization, or protection-related programming.

    Technical Skills

    • Experience working with partners, community structures, and local authorities.
    • Prior experience in CP, GBV, or safeguarding-sensitive environments is an asset.
    • Experience in donor communication or institutional advocacy is an added advantage.

    Languages

    • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory.
    • Knowledge of local languages in Borno (e.g., Hausa, Kanuri, Shuwa) is a strong asset.

    IT know-how

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

    • Fully comply with Tdh Code of Conduct and ensure Child Safeguarding Policy, PSEA are always upheld.
    • Ensure adherence to Tdh standards and quality requirements in all the project activities.
    • Adhere to and ensure the team under her/his responsibility follows Tdh administrative and logistical regulations and procedures.

    Security

    • Commits to complying with the General Code of Conduct and systematically reports any breach of the Code through the Tdh warning procedure raises the awareness within the Foundation on violence and abuse and the rights that derive from them regarding children, community members and our own employees.
    • Commits to complying with the Risk Management Policies, including Safeguard policies (the policy of Safeguarding Children, the Policy of Protecting against Exploitation and Sexual Abuse, the Guideline on Abusive Behavior at Work), the Safety/Security Policy and Anti-Fraud/Corruption Policies and the Prevention of Funding Criminal Activities.
    • Commits to reducing the risk of abuse by developing an open and informed culture of management within the organization and in our work with children and the communities where we work.
