Background
IFAD has since assumed direct supervision and coordination of its programmes in Nigeria, with progressive increase in the duties and responsibilities of the IFAD Country Office in Nigeria. In 2010, IFAD approved and transferred funds for the procurement of a vehicle through UNDP, necessitating the services of a driver/office assistant. From May 2012, the Country Programme Manager has been out-posted to Nigeria to further strengthen the programme delivery of the Portfolio. Consequently, the Driver/Clerk position is critical to the effective direct supervision of the IFAD portfolio in-country.
The Driver/Clerk is responsible for the driving the IFAD President on his visits to Nigeria (on average thrice per annum), is responsible for driving the Country Programme Manager on a daily basis in Abuja for office duties, is responsible for driving Country Office members during missions, to at least 25 states. Duties also include ensuring the safety and security of all passengers in the vehicle at all times, as well as liaising with the UNDSS on missions. The Driver/Clerk is accountable for maintenance of the vehicle. The Driver/Clerk also is responsible for basic clerical duties of incoming and outgoing mail for the Country Office and filing.
In 2010, IFAD approved and transferred funds for the procurement of a vehicle through UNDP, to increase its visibility and facilitation of its engagement with both development and national partners as well as with Projects in the field. Procurement of a second vehicle is in view.

Proper and cost-effective use of vehicle- Expected Results: accurate maintenance of vehicle log, daily mileage, diesel consumption, oil change, greasing, minor repairs and arrangement for major repairs and provision of inputs to preparation of vehicle maintenance plans and reports, etc

Daily maintenance of vehicle - Expected Results: proper day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicle, timely checks of oil, tyres, brakes, battery, water, and cleanliness of vehicle, availability and updated documents: insurance, daily log, office directory, map of city/country, first aid kit, etc.

Basic clerical and logistical support - Expected Results: delivery, collection, log of mail/documents, photocopying, scanning and filing of unclassified documents, meeting official personnel and visitors at airport, etc …

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
Secondary School Education, valid driver’s license
Experience:
Knowledge of the UN, at least 2 years’ working experience as a driver with IFAD. Additional UN/international organization experience will be an added advantage, with safe driving record, knowledge of driving rules and regulations and skills in minor vehicle repair; basic clerical and logistical support skills.
