JOB DESCRIPTION

The Container Terminal Manager leads the terminal management team and is responsible for driving productivity and profitability of the terminal and fulfilling its commercial obligations to its customers in a safe and cost-effective manner.

A Container Terminal Manager must do so while ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and waterfront safety practices

RESPONSIBILITY

• Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives
• Ensuring the terminal operates strictly in accordance with statutory work, health, safety, environment and security requirements
• Implementing enterprise agreements with union members and official
• Provides the operating direction for the Container Terminal, ensuring that the following productivity and efficiency standards are met.
• Manage, motivate, coach and instruct all operational team members. Structure tasks and goals, establish efficiently
• Directs activities of Operations staff engaged in stevedoring, gate operations, yard operations, vessel planning, CFS Operation, and support activities.
• Ensure that production goals of dock/city bill per hour and on-time service are maintained to meet the highest possible customer satisfaction while minimizing the raw wage goal for the terminal.
• Implement and maintain production and cost control policies through the proper staffing, training, and supervision of employees.
• Ensure necessary resources (labor, equipment, time) are available to all employees to allow maximum productivity of operations staff.
• Ensure that yard, dock and equipment are maintained for providing a safe, clean and trouble-free work environment.
• Improve employee relations through motivation, feedback, and coaching.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Experience in the transportation industry with a thorough understanding of how to reship and end-of-line terminals operate.
• Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills on a management level.
• Demonstrated organizational abilities and project management experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Transportation or Business
• Five to seven years of experience in front-line supervision.
• Knowledge of applicable collective bargaining and work rule agreements.
• Effective training capabilities.
• Exposure to all operations departments 
• Knowledge of equipment and facility maintenance procedures
