    Brewing Operator

    The Key Purpose of this role is to safely operate one or more discrete processes in the Brewing & Utilities plant, execute maintenance tasks, quality control checks and analyses, and to coach fellow team members to produce a consistent product of the right quality at optimum cost.​

     

     

    Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    Operating and Process Control

    • Operating equipment in Brewing process areas (Brewhouse, Fermentation, Maturation and Filtration) according to VPO standards.
    • Constantly reviewing process performance against target and recording short stops and correcting any process deviation using the VPO tools.
    • Manage PIMS & POMS and take corrective action on negative trends.
    • Recording waste and movement of products on the appropriate documentation or information systems (MES, Logbooks, etc.).
    • Review trends to identify & resolve problems.
    • Support the creation (drafting and documenting) of standard work procedures (including quick fix routines and problems).

    Maintenance of Plant and Equipment

    • Carrying out autonomous operations (ATO) as defined for the process areas.
    • Performing housekeeping tasks, applying 5S principles and following safe work practices.
    • Identify defective plant, and report these through/to the Process Artisan to BAM for assist with resolution.
    • Assisting the Process Artisan/Machine specialist in executing running repairs on shift.

    Quality Control and Analysis

    • Carrying out the required quality checks and analyses and recording the results on the appropriate information system.
    • The list of quality checks to be executed is contained in the work instructions.
    • React to the results using the VPO tools supplied.

    Communication

    • Actively participate in shift meetings, steercom asking questions to test understanding and contributing suggestions, making use of the action logs to record issues, problems and improvement opportunities.
    • Fully understand the team Dream and contribute to achieving it.
    • Make use of relevant communication media (e.g. shift logbook, OWS, team room, etc.) to stay informed and inform others of issues.
    • Complete required hand over to incoming shift team members, ensuring the issues relating to plant performance, quality and maintenance are communicated and documented.
    • Ensure and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

    Problem Solving

    • Where problems occur, use the VPO problem solving tools to resolve and record the issues.
    • Ensure process quality and productivity.
    • Prepared to work shifts.
    • The main role is to apply core competencies to achieve optimum plant and process performance.
    • Manage a process area according to VPO principles and standards.

    • Develop others in own skills as well as learning from the skills of others.
    • Be a logical, analytical problem solver who can operate in an unstructured environment.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • BSc Degree in Biological Sciences, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
    • Completed brewing traineeship
    • Min –12 months on the job training @ SCAP process.
    • 6months -5 years experience in a Brewing Environment or Previous experience in a process controlled manufacturing environment, ideally in food FMCG products.

    Packaging Process Operator

    The Key Purpose of this role is to safely operate and maintain defined Packaging equipment (Filling and labelling process areas which have a bigger business impact wrt cost and consumer quality) and related process in order to achieve optimal effectiveness .

    Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    Operating equipment and manage associated processes & performance in packaging

    • Ensure and maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
    • Interpret and implement production plan for shift.
    • Operate manual and automatic machines on line as per standards.
    • Monitor production processes on shift and correct any negative trends.
    • Ensure process quality and productivity.

    Perform administration

    • Complete associated tracking and monitoring: Complete operator. workstation administration and take action as required.
    • Complete Team room administration as required.
    • Contribute to self development.

    Problem Solving

    • Manage PIMS & POMS and take corrective action on negative trends
    • Use QFR's (As per triggers)
    • Complete 5 WHY's (As per triggers) with relevant team members
    • Contribute towards AB reports as required

    Autonomous operations

    • Conduct autonomous operations

    Minimum Requirements:

    Internal Criteria

    • Garde 12
    • Mechanical aptitude
    • Machine specific experience
    • External Criteria: Technical qualification (N3 or similar)
    • Post Matric or equivalent e.g N4

    External Criteria

    • National Diploma or equivalent (External) IOB Certificate/Diploma (Mech/Elec)
    • On the job training with a minimum of 3 months, SKAP completed
    • Min, experience within 12 months, SKAP completed
    • Experience within a packaging FMCG industry will be an advantage

    Packaging Electrician

    The Key Purpose of this role is to provide artisan skill and knowledge to the team, and to support the operations, maintenance and problem solving activities.

    Key Roles and Responsibilities:

    OPERATIONAL SUPPORT​

    • Provide specialist support to the shift based teams during operations. This will include standby and day shift support.
    • Where requested, assist as a functional expert in problem solving.
    • Where requested, provide guidance and advice to the shift based teams on machine operation, machine fault finding and correct responses to machine failure modes.
    • Where requested, provide coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer of machine operation to shift based teams.
    • Assess Operators and Artisans ability to carry out tasks.
    • Take part, as functional expert, in regional and central office plant optimization trials. Adhere to work practices that support shift based teams.

    MAINTENANCE

    • Take part in maintenance planning meeting, contributing suggestions and clarifying work required.
    • Carry out work during the planned, routine and opportunity maintenance window in accordance with the planned maintenance schedule issued by the Planner where scheduled work cannot be completed, feedback to the Maintenance Planner for direction.
    • This may involve rescheduling the work or prioritizing outstanding work.
    • Assist fellow team members in the execution of their tasks in during planned maintenance windows.
    • Complete any administration and SAP tasks, SIGGA, Problem Terminator in support of planned maintenance​​.
    • Partake in maintenance post mortems to feedback problems, opportunities and learnings from maintenance activities.

    MAINTENANCE

    • Carry out Autonomous Operations as per requirements Partake in cleaning, lubrication and inspection in accordance with the maintenance schedule issued by the Maintenance Planner must be resolved using the appropriate problem solving techniques. ​
    • Carry out routine maintenance activities in accordance with the maintenance schedule where problems have been uncovered during routine maintenance (where required, additional resources may be called in to assist).
    • Verify that where running repairs have been carried out, this has addressed the problem
    • Complete the administration tasks relating to any running repairs has carried out (this includes all SAP & SIGGA, Problem Terminator inputs)​.
    • Where running repairs cannot be carried out, communicate this to the Maintenance Planner to ensure the work is planned into the next planned window.

    PROBLEM SOLVING​

    • Assist fellow team members to resolve problems on request Take part, as functional expert, in AB reports on request.
    • Where necessary, call in additional resources to assist in problem solving or escalate to the Packaging Engineer and the Performance and Continuous Improvement Manager for direction.
    • Analyze machine performance, conduct loss and waste analysis and develop action plans to improve performance.

    HOUSEKEEPING AND SAFETY​

    • Operate in a safe manner at all times, and identify and highlight unsafe work practices so that these may be corrected​​.
    • Carry out work according to the work instructions and adhere to appropriate SAB policies and procedures and VPO Standards.
    • Carry out housekeeping tasks, and apply 5S principles during the execution of duties.

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Grade 12.​
    • Trade Test Millwright (with a strong Electrical bias)​.
    • Minimum N3 Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Instrumentation. ​
    • 2 years experience highly advantageous.
