Earlier in the 8th and 9th Assembly, a similar bill was sponsored by Senator Danjuma Laah for the establishment of a University of Science and Technology. Senator Katung's bill gave a new and specific focus to the University in order to address specific needs relating to access to specialized education and man power needs in Nigeria.
