    Nursery School Teachers

    JOB OVERVIEW

    Motivate children and use resources imaginatively to help them learn. Provide a safe and secure environment for them to not only develop their academic, social and communication skills, while recording observations and summarizing their achievements.

    EDUCATION

    1. Degree in Education, with a focus on early childhood development.
    2. Alternatively, a degree in other fields with PGD in education
    3. Or, National Certificate in Education (NCE) qualification with a minimum 3 years of experience.
    4. TRCN certification will be an added advantage

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

    1. 1-2 years’ experience in teaching early years.
    2. Experience working with young children in a classroom setting.
    3. Experience with children between 3-5 years will added advantage.
    4. Experience in developing eLearning resources.
    5. Use of computing devices – computers, scanner, printers etc.

    PREFERRED SKILLS

    1. Excellent communication and listening skills.
    2. Good organisational skills.
    3. An understanding of how small children learn.
    4. The ability to inspire and enthuse young children.
    5. Ability to communicate with young children at their level
    6. Resourcefulness, responsibility, and a caring nature
    7. Ability to work independently with children, as well as being able to work in the wider nursery/school team.
    8. A sense of humour.
    9. Ability to keep things in perspective.
    10. Creative skills such as music, dance, drama, arts and crafts.
    11. Good mediation and nurturing abilities.
    12. Patient, compassionate attitude, with a friendly, energetic disposition
    13. Basic use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel is required.
    14. A good understanding of 21st century learning methods and tools is required.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Motivate and stimulate children’s learning abilities, and encourage learning through experience.
    2. Provide care and support for the children within a secure learning environment
    3. Assist with the development of the children's personal, social, language and physical coordination abilities.
    4. Develop and produce visual aids and teaching resources.
    5. Organise learning materials and resources and make imaginative use of resources;
    6. Encourage children’s mathematical and creative development through stories, songs, games, drawing and imaginative play.
    7. Develop and provide safe and stimulating learning activities based on educational frameworks.
    8. Maintain the health and safety of the children during all activities, both inside and outside the nursery/school.
    9. Work with other staff: teaching assistants, school nurse; including parents, caregivers and, visiting professionals to plan and coordinate both indoor and outdoor activities
    10. Share knowledge gained with other staff in the Nursery School Section and the entire Academy as required.
    11. Develop children’s curiosity and knowledge.
    12. Build and maintain healthy working relationships with parents
    13. Share knowledge gained about the children with parents through reports and other means approved by Brighthouse Academy.
    14. Observe, assess and record each child's progress.
    15. Attend staff meetings and staff training days.
    16. Maintain all necessary records.
    17. Keep up to date with changes in the curriculum and developments in teaching best practice.
    18. Support the development of children’s basic skills, including physical coordination, speech and communication.
