    Literature Teacher

    We are seeking a passionate and certified literature teacher to join our team and prepare students for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) while also teaching other classes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in literature, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to fostering a love for literature in students.

    Responsibilities:

    • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that cover the WAEC literature curriculum, ensuring alignment with exam requirements.
    • Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore and analyse literary texts.
    • Assess student progress through a variety of methods, including quizzes, tests, essays, and discussions, and provide timely feedback to students and parents/guardians.
    • Implement differentiated instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students, including those with special educational needs.
    • Integrate technology and multimedia resources into lessons to enhance student learning and engagement.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular connections and interdisciplinary projects.
    • Organise and supervise extracurricular activities related to literature, such as book clubs, literary events, and writing competitions.
    • Keep abreast of developments in literature education, attend professional development opportunities, and continuously refine teaching practices.
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance data, and communicate effectively with stakeholders, including parents/guardians and school administration.
    • Uphold school policies and procedures, including those related to behaviour management, safeguarding, and health and safety.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Literature, English, Education, or a related field.
    • Teaching certification/license in literature or English language teaching.
    • Proven experience teaching literature at the secondary level, preferably preparing students for WAEC examinations.
    • Strong knowledge of literary genres, periods, and critical theories.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
    • Creative and innovative approach to teaching, with a commitment to student-centered learning.
    • Proficiency in educational technology and willingness to integrate technology into teaching practices.
    • Organisational skills and attention to detail in lesson planning, assessment, and record-keeping.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute positively to a professional learning community.
    • Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice
