    Gender and Protection Officer

    Position Summary:

    Ensuring the promotion of inclusiveness, gender equality and equity is one of the fundamental values of GBVS. Furthermore, GBVS ensure adequate GBV prevention and Child Protection in its programming, including in its Education in Emergency (EIE) work, which highlights inclusive and sustainable economic growth from a gender perspective, incorporates coaching and mentoring as well as skill trainings, career guidance and linking with the opportunities, for its beneficiaries. GBVS is committed to effectively mainstream gender into its’ day-to day work and the design and formulation of its programs. GBVS also requires its partners to be committed to integrating a gender perspective in all policies, programs, projects and organizational practices. The officer will ensure project stakeholders’ participatory consultations take gender into consideration and that the needs of women and girls, men and boys are prioritized. S/he will act as resource person in capacity building, knowledge sharing events and other relevant activities. This will include developing, reviewing and updating gender training modules to ensure they are of high standards and monitor implementation. The position will develop and maintain relationships with state and local authorities coordinating joint efforts and trainings in consultation with the supervisor.

    Tasks:

    Under direct supervision and guidance of Response Director in close collaboration with the Program Manager, the Protection Officer will be conducting the following tasks:

    Gender awareness for the GBVS Office to improve GBVS’s women-focused programs in Northeast Nigeria

    • Review GBVS core policies including HR related policies, procurement, communication.
    • Assess and identify potential gender-differentiated impacts of the programs.
    • Identify most effective trainings and resources to support staff’s gender literacy.
    • Deliver the gender awareness training (online and offline) to provide the GBVS staff and beneficiaries to increase effectiveness of the gender-focused programs in Adamawa.

    Mainstreaming of GBV and CP into GBVS education programs

    • Ensuring GBV is mainstreamed into all activities from planning to completion.
    • Ensuring CP is mainstreamed into all activities from planning to completion.
    • Leading baseline, midline and endline assessments focused on gender components of GBVS’s interventions

    Oversight over Sub-Implementing Partner

    • Ensuring GBVS sub-grantee implements its commitments according to GBVS program lead’s specifications.

     

    Required Expertise, Qualifications and Skills

    • University degree or equivalent with relevant work experience in gender studies or equivalent (sociology, cultural studies, political science/ public administration/international relations/ development studies, etc.)
    • A master degree is an added advantage
    • Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Understanding of local language is added advantage
    • Minimum of 3 years of professional work experience
    • Demonstrated experience in gender, developing and delivering training
    • Demonstrated commitment to gender equality, gender mainstreaming, women employment and inclusive knowledge about the cultural background of perspectives approaching to women.
    • Good understanding of organizational structures operations and policies of non-governmental organisations
    • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data and analytics into insights, stories, and visual representations

    Duration:

    This role is open for an initial 12 months and may be renewed based on available funding/satisfactory assessment.
