    Coordinator of Athletics

    SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    • The Coordinator for Athletics reports to Vice President and Dean Student Affairs and is charged with the responsibility of coordinating the use of all athletic facilities by students’ groups of the University.
    • The duties will include but not limited to planning, organizing, and supervising all athletic awards events, intramural sports/game schedules, transportation, lodging, and meals for out-to-town athletic events as well as managing athletic operations in accordance with the standard operating procedures of the American University of Nigeria. Maintain an active athletic program that promotes good sportsmanship and student development.
    • Develop training options and/or improvement plans for students to ensure exemplary operations in the area of athletics.
    • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs. Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment and recommend disposal and replacement of equipment when necessary.
    • Implement student management policies, communicate expected student behavior related to athletics, and ensure enforcement of student discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
    • He establishes and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences on vital athletic issues.
    • Establish physical and academic eligibility requirements for participation in each sport, and verify each athlete’s eligibility.
    • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to gauge athletic program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responsive to student needs.
    • Leads and oversees the teaching and coaching of sports, weight training and exercise activities at A.U.N. Coordinate the scheduling of competitions among A.U.N. students and with other teams outside of A.U.N. who wish to compete with A.U.N. teams. Provide teams and activities for both men and women in equal number and time as is reasonably possible.
    • Account for funds allocated for these areas of responsibilities directly to the Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students or his designate on a regular basis.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned or delegated.

    Requirements for the position:

    • A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized tertiary institution with at least three to Five years successful teaching and coaching experience.
    • Teaching certificate with physical education endorsement.
    • Experience to carry out the responsibilities, including knowledge of exercise and weight training, sports activities, and physical conditioning.
