    Summary

    • The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (48 hours per week)

    Duties
    Basic Function:

    • Under the supervision of Country Attaché, the incumbent operates a variety of armored motor vehicles to transport Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) personnel including VIP visitors, TDY staff, delegations and field trips.
    • Performs daily and weekly preventive maintenance, including but not limited to cleaning vehicles, document mileage, check fuel and oil levels, refuse vehicles, and check tire gauge. 
    • A driver for the DEA has to be trustworthy , confidential and use the utmost discretion.
    • The driver must successfully pass the DEA polygraph examination to maintain honesty, loyalty and to assure that the personnel has not, at any time be comprised. 

    Qualifications and Evaluations
    Education Requirements:

    • Completion of Secondary School is required.

    Experience:  

    • Minimum of three (3) years professional driving experience is required.

    Job Knowledge:  

    • Knowledge of key locations such as government facilities, resident Embassies and Consulates, restaurants and shops is required.
    • Knowledge of traffic laws, local area roads and traffic patterns in and around Lagos and other cities is required.
    • Good knowledge of Department of State regulations governing the use of USG vehicles is required.
    • Must have good knowledge of automotive, mechanical, safety and maintenance practices i.e. checking fluids and tire pressure.

    Evaluations:

    • This may be tested. Applicants must address all language proficiency requirements to be considered.

    Language:

    • Limited knowledge (Reading / Writing / Speaking) of English is required.  Limited knowledge (Reading / Writing / Speaking) of any Local Language is required.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Must have a valid Nigerian driver's license.
    • Ability to work on rotational shift schedule is required.
    • Must be able to drive carefully and cautiously in heavy and chaotic traffic.
    • Ability to communicate clearly on the phone and /or by radio and follow instructions is required.
    • Ability to recognize hazards or potential dangerous situations and take appropriate defensive action is required.
    • S/he should be able to drive a variety of vehicles, including buses, sedans, and trucks, both standard and automatic.

    Agency Benefits:

    • Locally Employed Staff, including Members of Household (MOHs), and Third-Country Nationals (TCNs), working at the U.S. Mission in Lagos, Nigeria may receive a compensation package that may include health, separation, and other benefits.
    • For EFMs, benefits should be discussed with the Human Resources Office.
    • The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.

    Other Information:

    • Hiring Preference Selection Process:  Applicants in the following hiring preference categories are extended a hiring preference in the order listed below.  Therefore, it is essential that these applicants accurately describe their status on the application.     * Important

    • Applicants who claim status as a preference-eligible U.S. Veteran must submit a copy of their most recent DD-214 (“Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty”), equivalent documentation, or certification.  A “certification” is any written document from the armed forces that certifies the service member is expected to be discharged or released from active duty service in the armed forces under honorable conditions within 120 days after the certification is submitted by the applicant. The certification letter should be on letterhead of the appropriate military branch of the service and contain (1) the military service dates including the expected discharge or release date; and (2) the character of service.  Acceptable documentation must be submitted in order for the preference to be given.

    COVID-19 Requirements for Eligible Family Members

    • As required by Executive Order 14043, Eligible Family Members who will be employed on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Temporary Appointment (TEMP) are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 regardless of the employee’s duty location or work arrangement (e.g., telework, remote work, etc.), subject to such exceptions as required by law.

    Salary
    NGN3,889,576  (USD 27,782) Annually.
