    Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Officer

    Location: Bade, Yobe State

    Job Summary

    • The Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) Officer will be based in Bade, Yobe state and work under the supervision of the Area Project Manager. The IYCF Officer will be responsible for providing technical support and capacity building in IYCF program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, support and coordinate micro nutrient supplementation, maternal, newborn and child health weeks as well as coordination and monitoring of program implementation.

    Responsibilities
    The task and responsibilities includes but are not limited to:

    • Providing technical support in planning, implementation and monitoring of key IYCF interventions by working closely with State authorities as well as the ACF State technical advisor and nutrition program manager.
    • Providing technical support in the design and implementation of operational research to identify barriers and facilitators of optimal breastfeeding and complimentary feeding practices.
    • Working closely with LGA TA and staff at health facilities to establish, supervise and to provide strong follow up of mother support groups to promote appropriate IYCF practices.
    • Planning and providing training to health workers, community volunteers on MNCHWs and key community figures (traditional leaders, religious leaders and hair dressers and others) to promote optimal breastfeeding and complimentary feeding practices.
    • Conducting joint supportive supervision and follow up on the implementation of MNCHWs.
    • Providing weekly site report and monthly movement plan.
    • Organizing and conducting review meetings monthly/quarterly as necessary with other project team to revise program implementation strategies and address challenges in program implementation.
    • Providing technical support in the preparation of annual /quarterly/monthly plans on IYCF/ MNCHWs and nutrition in general.

    Requirements
    The successful candidate will:

    • Have a minimum of bachelor’s Degree in Health, Nutrition, Nursing or related field.
    • Have a minimum of 1 year working experience in humanitarian contexts, with at least 1 year in conflict/insecure contexts including CMAM, IYCF and community mobilization.
    • Have the ability and willingness to frequently travel to villages and stay at the field.
    • Have the capacity to supervise and coach health workers.
    • Be professional, motivated, open, creative, responsible, flexible and culturally sensitive.
    • Have excellent team, budget and project management and representation competencies.
    • Be proficient in statistics and other softwares (Microsoft Office package, SPSS, SPHINX, STATA, EPI Info, ENA for SMART, GIS, etc.
    • Be committed to Action Against Hunger mission, values and policy.
    • Be proficient with local languages (Kanuri, Fulani, Hausa).
    • Have previous NGO experience managing mobilization in different interventions (i.e. cash transfers, WASH, Nutrition).
