    Education Assistant

    JRS is recruiting for the position of Education Assistant to be based in Dikwa LGA of Borno State in preparation for anticipated funding from the European Commission Directorate for Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) for an education project to be implemented in Dikwa and Monguno LGAs of Borno State, Nigeria.

    Job Summary

    The purpose of the assistant position is to assist in the day-to-day implementation of the education programmes in Dikwa. The Education Assistant will work closely with the Education Officer to ensure EiE activities are carried out according to proposals, and donor requirements and measure the progress, quality, and impact of project implementation. S/he will be responsible for the direct implementation of project activities in Dikwa LGA.

    Key Responsibilities of the position

    Role/Mission

    • Support program activities in compliance with the project log frame, budget, work plan, and proposal and in line with donor requirements and humanitarian practices.
    • Mobilize communities to support learning opportunities and educational participation.
    • Identify and register out-of-school children (OOSC) for learning activities based on JRS and donor criteria.
    • Support and document the distribution of materials and supplies for learning, verifying that the amounts received are distributed.
    • Monitor activities and ensure the accuracy of data collection and tracking of community feedback and complaints in coordination with Compliance and Feedback Units.
    • Ensure that learning spaces are safe for learners and report any protection concerns.
    • Supervise volunteers and enumerators and report performance concerns.
    • Support training to teachers on pedagogy, child protection, and other thematic contents.
    • Develop weekly work plans and other key implementation planning documents.
    • Monitor implementation and provide recommendations to improve the quality of implementation.
    • Reviews documents and processes which authorize distribution. Ensure that an approved procedure is followed in the registration and selection of beneficiaries and ensures that the distribution list is accurately consolidated.
    • Completes warehouse management and distribution inspection checklist for the school stores visited and distributions attended.
    • Liaises with concerned government education offices for smooth and efficient programming.
    • Ensure timely supply of teaching learning and recreational materials in the schools.
    • Support teachers and children to initiate activities that meet the psycho-social needs of the displaced children and teachers.
    • Under the supervision of the Education Officer and in collaboration with Volunteer teachers facilitate the running of sports/recreational and psycho-social activities in project schools.
    • Support in mobilization and sensitization of community members on the importance of education in collaboration with PTAs, SBMCs, LGEA, SUBEB, and the Ministry of Education.
    • Support education campaigns including developing advocacy messages for different events.
    • Carry out registration of learners in established communities and learning spaces in collaboration with local leaders, teachers, PTAs, etc.
    • Assist the teachers in their work and report all protection-related concerns in project schools.
    • Ensure a complaints response mechanism is in place in schools and beneficiaries receive feedback.
    • Promote PSEA and safeguarding standards within JRS and amongst the beneficiaries it serves.
    • Any other tasks are relevant to the position as requested by the line manager.

    Required Profile

     Qualification

    University Degree or equivalent in Education, Social Sciences, or related field

    Experience and Skills

    • Good knowledge of MS Office.
    • Minimum of 2 years relevant working experience with NNGO, and INGO in the Northeast.
    • Experience working with IDPs, refugees, and other vulnerable populations
    • Good analytical and reporting skills.
    • Ability to work in stressful locations.
    • Traceable references of previous employers.
    • Understanding of the education context and humanitarian and development response in the Northeast.
    • Experience with nonformal, working with Tsangaya and Islamiyya schools on mainstreaming Out of School Children (OOSC) and support to formal education preferred.
    • Experience in implementing ECHO projects is preferred.
    • Good knowledge and understanding of DO NO HARM principles and established international child protection standards.
    • Experience working in emergency settings, particularly in Northeast Nigeria.
    • Previous experience of working in Dikwa, and good knowledge of key stakeholders in the area are desirable.
    • Kanuri and/or additional local language skills are required.
    • The position is open to indigenes of Borno State.
