    Health Care Assistant


    Job Responsibilities

    • Assisting with the developing a caring, supportive and spiritual atmosphere for adults or children requiring palliative care.
    • Assisting with the registered nurses in their duties and accept specific areas of responsibility as designated by the registered nurse on duty, according to service requirements.
    • Assisting with personal cares- showering, toileting, feeding, dressing, bed making
    • Maintaining a high standard of patient care ensuring policies and procedures are adhered to.
    • Providing individualized patient care under the direction and supervision of the trained nursing staff.
    • Providing expert care to terminally ill patients and their families.
    • Supporting trained nurses in their role and work as a member of the nursing team.
    • Covering a 24 hour nursing rota when the need arises.
    • Participating in implementing care delegated by trained staff for which training has been given and competence achieved.
    • Be involved in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care together with other healthcare professionals and the clergy.
    • Working as a member of the nursing team under the supervision of trained staff reporting changes in patients’ conditions and needs as they occur.
    • Participating in meetings related to families and staff.
    • Maintaining a safe, clean and secure environment for patients, their families, visitors
    • Being fully aware and comply with all Trinity Hospice Palliative Care Services policies and procedures.
    • Communicating information on patient care and related matters to the nurse in charge of the Wing/Unit.
    • Being culturally sensitive at all times
    • Ensuring correct use and due economy is made of equipment and resources.
    • Treating each individual with respect and dignity at all times
    • Acting in accordance with Health & Safety Policy, ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff.
    • Assisting in the maintenance of stock levels, including pharmaceutical products
    • Acting in accordance with Hospital Infection Control Policy.
    • Reporting any untoward incidents immediately.
    • Possessing the ability to prioritize competing tasks and workloads in a demanding environment
    • Assisting with bereaved relatives as required.
    • Escorting patients to other department and give appropriate handover
    • Receiving and conveying information from telephone or personal enquiries in a courteous manner and ensure all persons visiting the ward are greeted and assisted in a welcoming and supportive manner
    • Assisting and supporting registered nurses and clerical staff in administrative duties as required
    • Assisting the patient to ensure they have the opportunity to meet their individual dietary requirements. Ensuring all patients receive their chosen and correct meals
    • Promote and respect the policies and procedures of Cedarcrest Hospitals at all times, upholding the company values and standards.
    • To provide additional services on an “as and when” required basis which are within you’re your job roles and responsibilities and deemed operationally essential

    Person's Specification

    • SSCE OR WAEC (only)
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide information clearly and concisely
    • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with clients, patients and their families, Registered Nursing staff, management, colleagues and other stakeholders.
    • Possess a positive attitude to change with the ability to be flexible and adaptable as required
