Job Summary

• This person is responsible for cutting and editing the video and can sometimes double up as a DIT person.

Job Description

• Receiving brief and maybe an outline of footage and or a shot list script or screenplay
• The video editor shall be responsible for assembling recorded raw material into a finished product that’s suitable for broadcasting. The material which will include camera footage dialogue, sound effects, graphics and special effects.
• Assembling all raw footage with camera shots either recorded or transferred onto video tape in preparation for inputting into the computer
• Inputting uncut rushes and sound, and synchronizing and storing them into files on the computer
• Digitally cutting files to put together the sequences of the film and deciding what’s usable
• Creating a “rough cut” (or assembly edit) of the programme / film and determining the exact cutting for the next and final stages
• Reordering and fine-tuning the content to ensure the logical sequencing and smooth running of the film/video.
• Will work on a contract basis and be responsible for post-production studios works television broadcast and contentment acquisitions.
• Digitally cutting files to put together the sequence of the film and deciding what’s usable

Types of Film / Video Editing
Work shall be on a variety of productions including:

• Commercials
• Music videos
• Broadcasting programmes, e.g. Shows and events, channels contents etc.
• Features films
• Corporate events
• Additional task may include:
• Suggesting or selecting music videos
• Overseeing the quality and progress of audio and video engineering and editing
• Experimenting with styles and techniques including the design of graphics elements
• Carry out online editing duties, which involves finalizing technical aspects such as correcting faulty footage grading and coloring and adding special effects
