    Enumerators - Assessment of the Conflict Dynamics in Yobe state

    Position Status: Contract

    Location: Damaturu, Gujba and Potiskum LGAs of Yobe State.

    Reference number: Alert/E/2019

    Purpose
    The proposed study is meant to contribute to Specific Objective 2, for which International Alert is responsible within the consortium of partners:

    Enhanced state government capacity to lead, oversee, strengthen and expand its social protection system to address basic needs and critical deprivations, alongside increased state and community capacity to facilitate reconciliation and social cohesion.

    This study will focus on two broad but inter-related areas: 1) an assessment of the current and changing dynamics of conflicts in Damaturu, Gujba and Potiskum LGAs and 2) a study to provide empirical evidence and programming options, as well as policy recommendations for the effective reintegration of men, women, girls and their children associated with Boko Haram in the above mentioned LGAs of Yobe State.

    The expected outcomes of this study are:

    • To provide programming options for International Alert to enhance reintegration processes,
    • ensuring that communities affected by conflict are able to discuss barriers to reconciliation and to identify long term solutions which are culturally and conflict sensitive and harness community resilience.
    • To generate new knowledge on existing conflicts and strategies for preventing, managing and addressing them in targeted areas.

    Scope of Work /Responsibilities

    The Enumerators will:

    • Get familiar with data collection tools and the study protocol.
    • Attend orientation and data collection training.
    • Play a key role in the mobilization of respondents for the research.
    • Conduct Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) and Focus-Group Discussions (FGDs) in Damaturu, Gujba and Potiskum LGAs of Yobe state.
    • Guide the research team on cultural dynamics and sensitivities within the target communities.
    • Review filled data collection tools to ensure completion and quality of data.
    • Provide clarifications at the data analysis stage regarding collected data as needed.
    • Participate in final analysis workshop      

    Qualifications and Personal Attributes

    • Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline (with knowledge of both quantitative and qualitative data collection).
    • Knowledge and experience of Yobe state terrain, and the conflict dynamics of the context .
    • English fluency (oral and written), Hausa fluency, Knowledge of other languages prevalent in Yobe State (Kanuri, Shuwa, Bade, Ngizim, karekare, Babur, Fulani, Bolewa etc.) would be an advantage.

    Timeframe / Schedule:
    The enumerators will be engaged for a period of 4 days each (tentatively in October/November 2019).  A total of 12 enumerators (6 male and 6 female) will be consulted, 4 enumerators each will be working together with a Research Consultant and Alert staff in Damaturu, Gujba and Potiskum LGAs of Yobe state.

    The enumerators will report to:

    Alert’s Research Consultant, Project Manager and Project Officers.
